V8 Dirt Modifieds return to the high banks of Warrnambool’s Sungold Stadium this Saturday night (Jan 12) for Round Three of the Summer Slam Series, presented by Meehan Race Engines. A stellar field of 18 V8 Dirt Modifieds will take to the track this weekend in what also doubles as a vital hit out prior to the running of the Australian Title at the same venue on February 15 & 16.
Novocastrian Scott Cannon comes to Warrnambool with a slender points lead over local resident and reigning Australian Champ Tim Morse. Canon has an opportunity to cement his position atop the point standings this weekend following a pair of fourth place finishes in the preceding two rounds. Morse meanwhile is hoping for a strong showing in front of his home crowd, and with two podiums from the opening two rounds of this seasons' Series is amongst the favourites for top honours come Saturday night.
The first two rounds of this seasons Summer Slam Series has yielded two different Feature race winners, with Lloyd Hobson (Rd 1) and Mark Robinson (Rd 2) sharing the victory spoils to date. While Robinson has enjoyed consistency aboard his new Teo mount, Round One victor Hobson was forced out of the most recent Summer Slam Feature with a flat tyre, putting a dent in his championship aspirations. Robinson and Hobson sit third and fourth respectively in the Series point standings, with Robinson also victorious in the corresponding round last season.
Round One runner-up Darren Latimer currently has a stranglehold on fifth place in the standings, with another strong performance this weekend almost certain to see his move further up the ladder. Latimer currently sits in front of Stuart Herne and defending Summer Slam Champ Steven Milthorpe, with the latter pair hoping for a for a serious points haul this weekend to keep them in the race for the Championship.
Joining the 12-strong contracted driver contingent will be leading Victorian contender Darryl Hickson, Aaron Trotter, Troy Scott, Scott Whitting, rookie Matt Giffin and South Australian Tim Goss.
Drivers will contest two heat races each, before the top 12 face off in the A and B Dash, setting the scene for the all important 30-lap Feature race.
