MODIFIED CHALLENGE SERIES AND SPECIAL EVENTS HIGHLIGHT 2008 BRIDEGPORT SPEEDWAY SCHEDULE
BRIDGEPORT, NJ (January 16, 2008) - With the start of the New Year, Bridgeport Speedway management has released a very exciting 2008 racing schedule which includes a new Big Block Modified Challenge series, three appearances by the URC Sprints, special holiday races, mid-week races and two fall weekend events.
After a few meetings, track officials from Bridgeport Speedway and New Egypt Speedway have developed an eight race series which will determine a New Jersey Dirt modified champion. The opening event of the Bridgeport – New Egypt Modified Challenge will kickoff with a 30 lap - $3000 to win event on opening night Saturday April 5 at 6:00 pm. Also, the 358 Sportsman, GM Sportsman, Rookie GM Sportsman and Outlaw Stocks will have their opening events as well. Additional Bridgeport – New Egypt Modified Challenge races to take place at Bridgeport Speedway are scheduled for Tuesday June 24 (Wingate Classic 40 laps - $4000 to win); Saturday August 23 (30 Laps - $3000 to win); and the series champion will be crowned at the final series race on Turkey Chase Weekend November 8 and 9.
The URC Sprints will be making three appearances at Bridgeport Speedway in 2008 including their season opener on Saturday April 12. They will return on Saturday May 25 in a Memorial Day Holiday special which will include twin 20 lap features for the Big Block Modifieds. The third appearance for the nation’s oldest traveling Sprint Car show will be on Friday July 4.
In addition to the Memorial Day show, other holidays will offer special events. Flag Day June 14 will have a 30 lap with $3000 to win for the Big Block Modifieds. Saturday June 28 will kickoff two weekends of celebrating the 4th of July with the Modifieds competing in twin 20 lap features. Labor Day Modified twin 20’s will hit the track on Saturday, August 30. Other notable Saturday events include the Bridgeport Modified Four dozen (4 - 12 lap features) scheduled for Saturday August 2, multiple appearances by the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club and several demolition derbies.
Besides the Wingate Classic occurring during the week, the third annual MS Race for the Cure will take place on Wednesday July 23 featuring the Big Block Modifieds in a 40 lap - $4000 to win and 358 Open Sportsman in a 25 lap feature event.
The fall racing season at Bridgeport will again have two must see events weekend events. The fourth annual Atlantic Coast Weekend event is scheduled for October 11 and October 12 . Big Block Modifieds, 358 Modified, 358 Open Sportsman, GM Sportsman, Bridgeport Sprints, Outlaw Stocks, & Crate Late Models will all be in racing action. The 2008 racing season will conclude with the running of the Turkey Chase event on November 8 and 9. 358 Modifieds, 358 Open Sportsman, GM Sportsman, Outlaw Stocks, Crate Late Models, 4 Cyl Stocks and the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club will join the excitement of the final race of the Bridgeport – New Egypt Modified Challenge.
Bridgeport Speedway’s Friday night 1/4 mile racing season will kickoff on April 11. The 600cc Micro Sprints and 270cc Micro Sprints will be racing in 25 lap $500 to win events on their opening night. Also the popular 4 Cylinder Stock Cars and Slingshots will be in action. Friday night action on the 5/8 mile speedway will begin on Friday May 23 with 358 Small Blocks and Bridgeport Sprints joining the exciting 1/4 mile racing action. The1/4 mile Micro Sprint Nationals will be scheduled and track officials are still reviewing possible dates.
Practice sessions have been scheduled as well for the 2008 racing season. 5/8 mile practice day has been scheduled for Saturday March 29 with the Pit Gates slated to open at 9:00 AM. 1/4 mile practice day will occur on Friday April 4 with Pit Gates opening at 5:00 PM.

Billed ‘The Fastest Dirt Track in the East’, Bridgeport Speedway is a high-banked 5/8th mile dirt oval, featuring a dirt 1/4 mile oval embedded in the center, and is located in Southern New Jersey -- just minutes from Pennsylvania and Delaware at exit 14 off of I-295.
