By: Jeff Anstett
Batavia, NY—January 19, 2008……The 2008 season is right around the corner and Genesee Speedway Officials have been hard at work making plans. 2 registration meeting have been planned for drivers and crew members to purchase licenses and secure pit reservations. The registration meetings will be held at the Kennedy Building located at the Genesee County Fairgrounds. The meetings are slated for Sunday, Feb 3rd from 12:30 to 4:00 with the 2nd meeting taking place on Saturday, Feb 23rd from 12:30 to 4:00. Genesee Tech Inspector Ron Mclaud will be present to answer any tech questions. Other Genesee staff members will also be present to take questions.
The 2008 season has really been taking shape with special races slated for all 5 weekly divisions. “We felt that every one of our divisions deserved a special race in 2008” commented Genesee Promoter Mike Lauterborn. “2008 should be a great year by being able to showcase all of our classes.”
One of the new races planned this year is a Special 30 lap Mini Stock challenge on tap for June 28th. The race will be part of a 2 race series with Black Rock Speedway. To make June 28th even more special, there will also be a challenge race with the Black Rock Bandit class and the newly formed Genesee Bandit class. The Genesee Bandit class is a newly formed Mini Stock beginner class that will be running a 10 lap feature at the beginning for the evening in 2008. “With the Mini Stock class getting more and more competitive every year, we felt that we need to allow room for younger competitors to get their feet wet” commented Rich Vleck. “The Bandit class has been very successful at Black Rock, and we feel that we can duplicate this at Genesee.” June 28th should see some really high Mini Stock car counts, and be a really great event. Plans will be in place to secure lap money for this race in the upcoming months.
2008 will also see the return of the Russ Prentice Memorial Race. Well known around racing circles for many years, “The Alabama Bandit” thrilled fans on both asphalt and dirt surfaces, in many types of cars. The August 8th edition will feature the 360 Late Models going 29 laps to honor Russ Prentice. Once again in 2008, Bob Mullen of East Coast Speed and Brian Kotarski of BDK Construction will be sponsoring the event.
Other big events slated for 2008 include the Holford/Conte Memorial Street Stock event on June 21st, the Sportsman Lucas Oil Shootout on June 14th, and the Jack Veach Memorial DIRT Pro Stock race on August 2nd. The goal of Genesee in 2008 is to have lap money for each class’s big event 2008. Other big events include the Bill Alhart Memorial ASCS Patriot Sprint Race on July 26th, along with the return of the DIRT Sportsman Trail on September 13th.
