TREVOSE, PA - Mike Gular's busy off-season rolls on.
The Green Lane, Pa., driver took part in the 40th Annual Eastern Motorsport Press Association Convention last Friday night at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center in Trevose, Pa.
Gular, 24, was invited by EMPA membership to participate in the convention's 'Casino Night' festivities - an honor reserved for track and series champions spanning the Northeast. Of course, Gular won the Penn-Can (Pa.) Speedway Modified points title in '07 - his first-ever track championship.
"I enjoyed spending some time away from the track with a lot of the writers and photographers who cover racing in the Northeast," said Gular, who was accompanied to the EMPA Convention by his girlfriend, Cassie, and his parents, Rudy and Karen.
"I've been fortunate to get a lot of good press coverage in my career already thanks to a lot of the people who were there on Friday night. It was an honor to be included."
Gular was in good company at the EMPA Convention. NASCAR Camping World Series (formerly Busch East) champion Joey Logano (who is Sprint Cup bound), Mr. DIRTcar Modified Brett Hearn, Grandview (Pa.)/Big Diamond (Pa.) 358-Modified champion Jeff Strunk, up-and-coming pavement standout Bobby Santos III (who spent '07 as a Bill Davis Development driver) and ARDC Midget champion Andy Martin were among those who visited with members of the media during the weekend.
The EMPA, founded in 1969, is one of the largest media organizations in the nation. EMPA has the only working convention for its members - this year's took place last weekend (Jan. 25-27) - and included workshops, seminars, press conferences and the annual Hall of Fame Awards Banquet.
