CINDY ROWE AUTO GLASS RETURNS AS CHAMPIONSHIP SPONSOR
MECHANICSBURG, PA -- The race for the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass sprint
car championship will begin on Sunday afternoon, February 24, when
Williams Grove Speedway opens its 2008 racing season.
The first heat is scheduled to start at 2:00.
Todd Shaffer of Millerstown, Pa., is the defending champion.
Shaffer earned his second track championship in 2007, twelve years
after his first. That represents the longest gap between championships
for any driver since this historic speedway opened in 1939.
Shaffer ended Fred Rahmer's three-year reign in 2007. Rahmer, with
an unprecedented seven titles and Lance Dewease with four, were the only
two drivers to win Williams Grove championships since Shaffer's first in
1995. Dewease was also the 1994 champion.
Rahmer will be a serious title contender once again this year, but
Dewease will not. Dewease has announced an ambitious independent
schedule which includes 20 dates at Williams Grove.
Other possible contenders include drivers such as Greg Hodnett,
Doug Esh, Mike Erdley, Jeff Shepard, Chad Layton, Mark Smith, Brian
Leppo, Brian Montieth and former champion Don Kreitz.
Cindy Rowe will begin her 12th consecutive year of sponsorship at
Williams Grove this season and through her participation the
championship team will earn $15,000.
In addition to her association with Williams Grove Speedway, Cindy
Rowe is also the title sponsor for Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek.
