FONDA, NY – On Saturday, January 19 The New York State Stock Car Association (NYSSCA) celebrated the 2007 racing season honoring drivers, owners and fans at the Polish Community Center in Colonie, NY. Approximately 500 guests attended the 39th annual awards banquet with local announcers John Stanley and Dan Martin serving as Masters of Ceremony.
Many of the Fonda Speedway drivers were awarded for their fine seasons at the NYSSCA banquet in different categories including the Driver of the Year category where the 2007 Track Champions were the recipients of the award. Matt DeLorenzo (Modified), David Towns (Sportsman), Kenny Gates and Rob Yetman (Pro Stock), Jeremy Cramer (IMCA), and Rocky Warner (Street Stock) were the Drivers of the Year at the Track of Champions with the Street Stock award being presented in memory of the late Bob VanAernam.
In the Outstanding Performance category, Bobby Varin was the recipient of the award in the Modified division with John McAuliffe (Sportsman), Kenny Martin Jr. (Pro Stock), Danny Ballard (IMCA), while the father/son combination of Dave Horning Sr. and Dave Horning Jr. both received the award in the Street Stock division.
In the Rookie/Newcomer of the Year category Erik Nelson took the honors in the Modified division while Anthony Denny (Sportsman), Shane Henderson (Pro Stock), Howard Smith (IMCA), and Cody Bleau (Street Stock) were the other winners in the category.
The Fonda Speedway car show is scheduled for Friday through Sunday March 14-16 at the Rotterdam Square Mall as race fans will again pack the mall to see their favorite drivers with their all new equipment and paint schemes for the 2008 racing season.
