Fultonville, NY- After taking the reins part way through the 2007 racing season, promoters Jake Spraker and Mike Romano has set in motion a series of changes and improvements at the Glen Ridge Motorsports Park working toward making the speedway a premiere racing facility in the northeast.
Many changes can be seen already taking shape at the speedway for the 2008 season, most notably the addition of a new scorer’s tower behind the main grandstand in addition to the moving of the flag stand to the middle of the front stretch. The old scorer’s tower is also under renovation, as it will become a VIP tower. To improve the racing and fan experience more speakers are in the works and already in process are the addition of more lighting on the speedway as new light poles can be seen in the infield.
The rules for the 2008 season will out shortly but some news of note on those rules are out. A mandatory rear track tire will be in place at the speedway. The tires produced by Hoosier will be mandatory on the left rear and right rear. The front tires will remain with an open tire rule as before. The tires will be available March 1st at Andy’s Speed Shop, and will be sold for $100 dollars for the left rear, and $140 for the right rear. $45 from every right rear tire sold will go directly to the modified and budget sportsman point fund.
A matching front Hoosier tire combination will also be available at the speedway for competitors to use if they choose, with contingency bonus up for grabs for anyone running those tires. As well as the tires, Raceceiver’s will mandatory for the 2008 season at the speedway.
Several special races dot the tentative schedule for the Glen Ridge Motorsports Park. The Speedway is set to open Saturday March 29th with a 30 lap modified race as well as Street Stocks and open practice. Friday May 23rd is Fan Appreciate night featuring $5 admission to the grandstands. July 11th features the return of Topless Night at the speedway, as the cars shed their roofs for the fans to see their favorite drivers hard at work. The Pro Stock’s are scheduled to make a return to the speedway with 2 shows, August 23rd, and September 19th. All races for at the speedway are points races, with the Modified points ending September 6th, and all other divisions deciding their champions September 19th.
Friday September 12th, and Friday September 19th will feature the Budget Sportsman as the headline division. This class, pioneered at the speedway, is always a crowd pleaser, as they featured 11 different winners during the 2007 season, including a memorable, 36 year in the making victory by the “Dancing Bear” John Constantino.
As with the changes to the facilities, rules, and schedule, changes have also been made to the purse. The 30 lap modified feature will now pay $1000 to win, while the 25 lap Budget Sportsman feature will pay $250 to win. The Street Stock class will continue to pay $200 to win for a field of 20 cars.
Advertising space is still available at the speedway for billboards or to sponsor a night at the speedway. Anyone interested can contact Mike Romano at (518) 762-1333 or (518) 705-3148 or Jake Spraker at (518) 773-7998 or (518) 848-4037.
