An extra Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modified event has been added to the Canandaigua Speedway for 2008. On Saturday, September 20th, as a part of the Land of Legends Racefest, the DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds will run the “Racefest 100.”

That event was tabbed as a 100-lap affair to warm teams up for the following World Series Weekend at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park on September 26th and 27th. In a popular move, the DIRTcar Big-Block Modified event has been reverted back to the “World Series 200,” as opposed to the Triple 50 format in years passed.

Gil tegg jr returns to canandaigua speedway in 2008!

After making his mark at the Black Rock Speedway for the past few seasons, Gil Tegg Jr. has decided to make the move back to the Canandaigua Speedway where it all started for him back in the early 1990’s.

Tegg will make the transition back from the 358-Modified ranks to the DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, and says that he hopes that his Small-Block consistency will follow him.

“I’ve set some goals for myself this season, and the main one is to be a weekly top10 runner. If we can do that, then we’ll have a really good shot at finishing in the top5 in points. Of course I’d love to walk out of there with a couple wins!”

crate motor program is solid for canandaigua, ccfs, and rwr in 2008!

Canandaigua, Cayuga County, and Rolling Wheels Raceways are fully committed to the Crate Engine Program for 2008 and beyond, amidst false rumors that the factory sealed 350-horsepower #8602 engines will be eliminated by GM after this season.

““GM Performance Parts will continue to supply factory-sealed 350 (8602), 355 (8603), and 400 (8604) horsepower circle track engines to the grassroots racing community in 2008 and into the indefinite future,” said Special Programs Manager for General Motors, Bill Martens. “The program has grown every year for the past five years, and with expanded interest in 2008, we fully expect this pattern to continue for many years in the future.”

Canandaigua, Cayuga County, and Rolling Wheels General Manager Jack Deery has had nothing but positive thoughts on the program.

“It has really helped out our Sportsman division as far as car counts and competition. This program offers our current drivers options to stay in the sport for an extended period of time, and offers new racers an affordable means to get started.”

Check back next month as we will have a full re-cap of the Volusia Speedway Park Alltel DIRTcar Nationals, as well as a preview of the upcoming Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series event at Hagerstown!
