Terry Povoski Crowned 2007 Regional International Pro Truck Series Champion

2007 has officially come to an end with the crowning of the 2007 series Champion, Terry
Povoski, of Dundee NY. Guests filled the Waneta Inn of Dundee, NY, For a Buffet style Sunday
Dinner that was absolutely delicious. Drivers were admitted free and all others purchased a ticket
for $5.00 that covered the basic expenses of the event..
Dan Turner of the NYMMS Series Emceed the evening, handing out some great looking
hardware put together by S and W Awards and Photos.
Each Driver got to spend a few minutes to thank their Sponsors and Teams, and also give us
some insight as to their plans for 2008. The 66 Truck Owned by Van Grant, was awarded 10
place, but was unable to be present at the ceremony due to unforeseen circumstances. 9th Place
was awarded to the 44 of Bill Edmister, Bill had some trouble at the High banks of Woodhull
Raceway as some of you remember, with an aerial assault on turn two during the 1st Lap. He
was not injured, but the 44 was sidelined for several weeks. He plans on returning next season
with a new powerplant, and the experience he gained over this year. The 8th points position was
awarded to # 27 Ralph Champion Jr.. Ralph started out the season strong with a Win at
Thunder Mountain Speedway, and top 5s at Woodhull and Redline Speedways. Ralph plans
on running the full tour next season, and possibly some Pro Stock action on the off weeks. 7th
position honors were picked up by the 26 Truck owned by Louie Seeley of Dundee, NY. The 26
has been sold to Creekside Racing, but Louie says he will continue to be a part of this group in
whatever capacity he can, Helping the Whites, or whoever he can. #2 Doug Buckley was
present to receive 6th place honors. Doug and Teed Chassis had a hard season, multiple engine
failures seemed to creep up out of nowhere. Due to that and some other on and off track issues,
Doug was awarded a new Helmet Courtesy of Creekside Racing from Lanes Yamaha as the
2007 Hard Luck Award. Doug also plans on returning next season in the Teed Chassis owned #2.
We took a short Pause to acknowledge some of our friends and supporters, Christy Hill, D and
J Photos and S and W Awards and Photos all received special recognition for their efforts on
and off the race track. Two members of the Series were awarded the coveted Sportsmanship
Award, Which was presented by John Flock.
Two people were selected because there was no contest that either of these individuals earned
this award more than the other, Both attended every race, and was always there to lend a helping
hand to someone struggling, no matter who it was. Even if it was someone they didn’t even know.
Whether it was toting a huge welding truck around to the races, or just being there to help change
spark plugs, Or working on repairs for teams that may not have had the resources to get the job
done, Both Bob Teed Sr. and Louie Seeley were always trying to help make sure everyone
made it back out on the track. We Salute your efforts this season Bob and Louie, you both
exemplify the family atmosphere in the pits that we have strived to achieve this year, and we think
the pits would not be the same without you both.
Finishing in the 5th points position, Was the 93 of Jared Hill. Jared has been a force to reckon
with all season, with only a few setbacks. There was a fierce points battle in the final race, but a
broken axle sidelined him while he was running up front. Jared and Creekside racing have
purchased two of the dormant trucks, one of which is race ready, and looks to put his girlfriend
Jamie in one, and there are several rumors about a past truck driver piloting the third truck. # 5 of
Mike Warren took home his first top five trophy, placing 4th in overall points. H&W Motorsports
has sold the 8 truck to Mark Guinup, a Woodhull FWD regular. But the 5 will be back in
contention in 2008 with a slight twist, all Mopar power and body.
Now, we did not have a rookie of the year award this season, But if anyone deserves it, it would
be #35 Jason White, who ended up the season 3rd in overall points. Jasons Season has been a
roller coaster, when he was good, he was real good, when things went bad, they went bad, fast.
Jason was part of the great points battle between Jared Hill, Mike Warren and himself, we were
not sure of the outcome until after the race who finished where in the top 5. The Whites Own two
trucks, one of which is brand new and has not been run yet, but is turn key and race ready, the
other may have to sit a while as Jason is expecting to become a Father sometime in June of 2008
and finishing School and preparing for that life event is High on his Priority list. The Tour wishes
him the best of luck with everything, and a big Congratulations.
The #32 of Chris Leroux, well, Chris Finished second to Terry again, but the Money
Management LTD Chevy Silverado gave him one heck of a fight right to the last lap of the last
race. Along the way he was able to capture his first ever Win and a second win at Woodhull
Raceway on Memorial Day. His 3rd win came at The Ontario County Fairgrounds ˝ mile oval.
Chris has been a great competitor all season long, and also one of the great tour members that
have made racing this season fun again. It’s no wonder he is as successful as he is with the
support of his family and sponsors. Chris’ plans are to go for the top spot next season, he will
definitely be one to keep your eyes on in 2008.
Terry Povoski took the tour by storm, with three wins , several heat wins and multiple top 5’s,
Consistency was the name of the game for the Lamoka Valley Builders #4 Dodge. Povoski was
surrounded by family and friends to accept the Championship Trophy, and his share of the Points
fund put up by Regional International Truck Trailer and Bus of Rochester NY. Terry has plans for
2008, but they do not include racing at this point, Several Drivers were overheard egging him on
about coming back next season, He is a fierce competitor, and has a class operation behind him.
Congratulations to the entire PBR team, We salute you, Champion.
Now on to news for 2008. Blackrock Speedway has opted not to have the Pro Trucks return as a
weekly class. No dates will be set either for the track the Trucks have called home since 2000.
This is good and bad news in our eyes. This frees up teams to travel to what we think will be an
acceptable schedule, at this time looking something along the lines of 10 races, possibly more,
but only two dates have bet set as several tracks are still working out their 2008 schedule. This
puts our racing season right on track to meet a lot of teams budgets. With fuel prices soaring, and
the cost of just getting to the races getting higher and higher, the idea of being able to support
local race venues, meet new people and try new tracks without having to break the bank every
week has sparked much interest in the truck scene. Having to travel only every two to three weeks
should make for a schedule that every team will be able to run. A date has not been set in stone
for the season opener, But a deal is in the works to make it a $1000.00 to win race. Additional
Sponsors are being worked with to help fill the purse through the rest of the field. The Tentative
schedule for 2008 should be released by the first week of January, along with the final revisions
for the 2008 rulebook. More to come soon in the following days, 2008 is already sounding like its
going to be a blast! |
