Dollansky delivers in Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprints opener.

It’s a shame Advance Auto Parts doesn’t sell sprint car parts. The carnage created in Friday’s 2008 Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws sprint car series opener will make someone great profit.

Dollansky endured many restarts and two red flags to survive the opener and take home the $10,000 payday in front of a packed house at Volusia Speedway Park.
Daryn Pittman fired first at the green flag, but Dollansky and Donny Schatz found bite down low to take the top two spots on the opening lap. With clear track Dollansky worked the outside lane to perfection opening a slight advantage of Schatz who favored the inside groove.

Lapped traffic became a factor early with Dollansky carving his way with precision. Schatz stayed close, but he couldn’t pressure the leader.

A scary wreck stopped the action on the seventh lap when Brian Ellenberger tangled while being lapped by Pittman and Steve Kinser and tumbled end-over-end down the frontstretch. Ellenberger emerged unscathed, but the car was destroyed.

Dollansky led Schatz, Joey Saldana, Kinser, and Pittman to the green, and Dollansky immediately returned to the cushion when the race resumed. Two more yellows slowed the pace before the big one halted the field again at the midway point.

Kraig Kinser, Shane Stewart and Kerry Madsen crashed hard in turn three with Stewart the only victim to stay upright. All drivers were uninjured, and Dollansky continued to lead at the restart followed by Schatz, Saldana, Kinser and Chad Layton.

Kinser suffered terminal damage when the cars were pushed off, and he retired from the race.
Terry McCarl flexed his muscle on the restart, driving to the bottom of the track, and taking advantage when Layton and Saldana slid high. The other driver working through the field was Lance Dewease, who had transferred to the A main through the treacherous B Main, and obviously hit the set up.

Dewease was able to work towards the front throughout the race, but Dollansky owned the show. He worked traffic nearly to perfection, and held on for his first win of 2008.

“Tonight we had a good starting position,” said Dollansky. “You’ve got to capitalize on that.”
He was followed by Schatz, McCarl, Dewease, and Jason Meyers.

Jerod Landers repeated his feat from Thursday night’s feature winning his second straight UMP Modified feature in convincing fashion.

In a 20 lap race that ran green to checkers without caution, Landers went unchallenged to the victory. He was followed by Jason Schill and Jessie Stovall.
