The Dude dominates World of Outlaws sprint car finale.
Danny “the Dude” Lasoski went wire to wire in the caution-marred Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car finale at Volusia Speedway Park Sunday night.
Lasoski earned the pole position by winning the Crane Cams Dash, and he never looked back in the feature event to capture his first win of the young 2008 campaign. He shot to the green flag of the 30 lapper, and immediately opened an advantage over Craig Dollansky who’d started on the outside pole.
One of the surprises on the night was a weak qualifying effort by two-time defending champion Donny Schatz. While Lasoski padded his lead on the field Schatz steadily worked his way forward.
The first of many cautions flew on lap 3 when Danny Smith and Randy Hannagan tangled in the first turn. Lasoski led the way followed by Dollansky, Terry McCarl, Jason Sides and Shane Stewart.
Lasoski immediately opened a comfortable lead on the restart, but Dollanksy mounted a serious challenge just a few laps later. As the leaders reached the ten lap mark, Dollansky looked as though a battle for the lead was inevitable. Lapped traffic quickly became a factor, and Dollansky lost the ground he’d made up when Lasoski carved through slow cars flaslwessly.
The final restart flew with just a handful of laps remaining, and Dollansky was unable to get close enough to mount a challenge. Lasoski cruised to victory followed by Dollansky, Meyers, McCarl and Steve Kinser.
The modified feature started with a bang…lots of bangs! A multi-car pile-up blocked the track when Ken Schrader was bumped in turn four triggering a massive wreck.
After a lengthy delay George Catanzano took the lead with Mike Spatola right behind. Spatola didn’t stay behind for long. He took the lead on the back stretch, and quickly worked to a straightaway lead.
Spatola saw the handling go away on his modified, and he slid through the field just past the midway point of the race leaving Tim Hancock at the point.
Hancock sped away when he took the lead, and Tommy Seets jr was fast in advancing to second spot, but he couldn’t find the speed to challenge Hancock.
Hancock led Seets, Jason Williams, Catanzano and Schrader at the finish. |
