Utica-Rome Speedway releases full 2008 season schedule.

UTICA-ROME SPEEDWAY RELEASES FULL 2008 SEASON SCHEDULE

VERNON , NY- With the 2008 season just months away, Utica-Rome Speedway has released its tentative 2008 schedule. The schedule is full of events that will please fans of all classes that race at the half mile oval, from the full fendered Pure Stocks to the ultra fast open wheeled sprint cars.

Opening night is slated for Sunday April 20th with the first stop of the SUNY Canton Street Stock/Pure Stock Series at the Utica-Rome Speedway. This event will pay a huge $1,000 to the victor of the 30 lap special. Sportsman and Pro Stocks will also be on the card with the 358-Modifieds invited for an open practice. The following week, the 358-Modifieds will have their first event of the season as they will once again be in pursuit of the lucrative $8,000 point championship. The Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks will also be in action for a regular show.

On Sunday May 11, Dart Machinery will present first “ Victoria 200” at the Utica-Rome Speedway. This will be a Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Series event with the Big Block and Small Block Modifieds vying for the $10,000 top prize. Like the New Yorker 200, this event will pay $1,000 to start. Pro Stocks will join the Modifieds for this special Mothers Day event.

The Race of Champions Dart Dirt Sportsman Series will be in action at the Vernon oval on the following Sunday May 18 along with a regular show of 358-Modifieds, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks. The RoC Sportsman Series will return on July 27 for its final stop at the track in 2008.

Keeping the Memorial Day Weekend tradition alive, the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints will join a regular show of 358-Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks for their first of three stops of the season at the fast track.

On June 1, the SUNY Canton Street Stock/ Pure Stock Series will make its second visit to the Utica-Rome Speedway, joining the 358-Modifieds, Sportsman, and Pro Stocks. Other stops during the summer season at Utica-Rome Speedway for the SUNY Canton Street Stock Series include July 13 and August 10.

On June 15, the ESDCA Mod Lites will make their first of three stop to the Speedway , using the smaller inner oval. The Midstate Vintage Stock Car Club will also be in competition along with the 358-Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks. The other two stop to the Utica-Rome Speedway for the ESDCA Mod Lites will be on July 20 and August 24.

The growing CRSA 305 Sprints will stop at the speedway on June 22 joining a regular show of 358-Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks.

On June 29, in what has become an annual tradition, it will be Old Timers Reunion as the speedway honors it racers from years past. The Midstate Vintage Stock Car Club will also be on hand with a display of car that used to race around the Vernon oval. A regular show of 358-Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks will also be on tap, plus it will also be autograph night which allows fans of all ages to meet their favorite drivers. NYSSCA officials will also be on hand for their annual Safety awards night.

On July 6, the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints again join a regular program to help celebrate Independence Day Weekend. A huge fireworks program will follow the racing program.

On Wednesday July 23, a special program is planned to honor one of the all time short track greats in the nation. The Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Series will compete in a 61 lap contest for a $6,100 top prize in a “Richie Evans Remembered” tribute. The Pro Stocks will also see action in this special event.

The fan favorite Twin 20’s for the 358-Modifieds return on August 17 joined by a regular program of Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks. The double features for the 358-Modifieds could have a huge impact on who walks away with the $8,000 championship at the end of the season.

Labor Day Weekend again has the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprint Tour bringing their high speed action to Vernon with a regular show also part of the program plus another huge fireworks display.

On September 7, track champions in all divisions will be crowned, ending the regular season at the famed speedway.

For the second consecutive season, the New Yorker 200 will end the racing portion of the season at Utica-Rome Speedway as the 358-Modifieds will again battle for the $10,000 top prize in the 19th running of the New Yorker on September 13. Pro Stocks and the Midstate Vintage Stock Car Club will join the mighty 358-Modifieds for the Saturday portion of the weekend. On Friday September 12, the Sportsman will compete for a $2,000 top prize while the Pure Stocks race in the final SUNY Canton Street Stock Series event of the season. The lone IMCA Modified appearance of the season will happen on this weekend when the World Products Empire State Series visits.

Finally, the Annual Awards Banquet will again close out the season on November 8 at the beautiful Turning Stone Casino and Resort.
