Sarver, PA (February 20, 2008)
With the Super Bowl and Daytona 500 now behind us, it’s time to start looking forward to the 40th Anniversary season of the Lernerville Speedway. The preseason festivities unofficially begin this weekend for a handful of drivers who will have their cars on display at the Advance Auto Parts World of Wheels at the David Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh. Local Sprint Car Hot Shot Danny Holtgraver will have his #D4 Don Ott/Maxim Chassis on display, along with UMP Super Late Model driver Todd Bachman in his #66 Vic Hill powered Rocket Chassis, and UMP Street Stock drivers Pat Hanley, Randy Hanovick and Shawn Thorn.
The following Saturday March 1 is the Annual Lernerville Awards Banquet at the Days Inn in Butler, PA. At the banquet, we will honor and celebrate the achievements of 2007 Track Champions Kevin Schaeffer (Commercial Truck & Trailer Sprints), Alex Ferree (Friedman’s Freshmarkets UMP Super Late Models), Brian Swartzlander (Ferrante Motor Cars DIRTcar Modifieds), and Mike Pegher Jr. (Advance Auto Parts UMP Street Stocks). In addition, the top ten drivers in Budweiser Point Standings of each division will be recognized as will an array of contingency awards including Walt Wimer’s Western PA Rookie of the Year Award. Tickets are available and on sale now by contacting the Lernerville Speedway office during normal business hours at (724) 353-1511.
The preseason rolls on throughout March with two car shows for Lernerville Speedway drivers. The first show will be held at the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills on Thursday-Saturday March 6-8, followed by the Annual Clearview Mall car show on Thursday-Saturday March 13-15. Some of the drivers scheduled to display their cars at the upcoming car shows include Commercial Truck & Trailer Sprint Cars of Danny Holtgraver, Brian Ellenberger, Brent Ellenberger and Lindsay Enscoe; Friedman’s Freshmarkets UMP Super Late Models of Gary Lyle, Todd Bachman, Chuck Sarver, Tony Burke and Jim Pitkavish; Ferrante Motor Cars DIRTcar Modifieds of Brian Swartzlander, Dave Murdick, Doug Fleeger, Ed Brown, Steve Feder and rookie Erik Martin; and Advance Auto Parts UMP Street Stocks of Bob Egley, Shawn Thorn, Randy Hanovick, Roger Stivenson, Eric Piotrowski and Terry Young. 2007 Street Stock Champion Mike Pegher Jr. will be on hand with his UMP Pro (Crate) Late Model.
On Saturday March 22, Lernerville Speedway will host a “Test & Tune” session from noon until 5:00 p.m. Drivers will have the opportunity to work on setup and gearing in preparation for Opening Night on Friday March 28. General Admission into the grandstands will be FREE for the Test & Tune session, giving fans a sneak peek into what promises to be an amazing season of racing at the Action Track.
As mentioned above, Lernerville Speedway’s 40th Anniversary Season officially begins with Opening Night on Friday March 28 with all Fab Four Divisions in action. Budweiser Points will begin the following Friday April 4. Early season highlights include the Showdown in Sarvertown presented by Y108 World of Outlaws Late Model Series race on Tuesday April 15, the First Commonwealth Bank Clash for the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series on Tuesday May 13, and the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions roll into town for a Friday Night show on May 23.
The 40th Anniversary Season will hit full stride at the end of June with the Second Annual Firecracker 100 presented by GottaRace.com for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series on Friday-Saturday June 27-28. Last year’s Firecracker was an overwhelming success and the 2008 version promises to be bigger and better than the original! Scott Bloomquist dominated the inaugural race, but it’s always tougher to repeat, and the field of cars will not get any easier or smaller with $40,000 on the line!
The spotlight will continue to shine on the Action Track entering July with the Cleveland Brothers CAT Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup XVII for the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series on Tuesday July 15. Two-time defending Outlaw Champion Donny Schatz is also the two-time defending Silver Cup Champion, but he too will face stiff competition from Outlaw, All Star, PA Posse and Western PA sprint pilots looking to cash the bountiful $40,000 winner’s check!
