BULLS GAP, Tenn. (Feb. 22 ) – IMCA Modifieds return to Tennessee when
Volunteer Speedway opens for the new season on April 5.
Promoted by Joe and Phyllis Loven, the 4/10-mile high-banked dirt
oval at Bulls Gap is the first track in the state to sanction its
open wheeled division with IMCA since 1998.
“We had dropped the Modifieds altogether last season,” said Mrs.
Loven, who ran into acquaintance and IMCA East ern Opera tions
Manager Joe Skotnicki during the RPM Workshops in Reno, Nev., in
November. “I started talking to him and got information about the
class. Our drivers were in terested and that’s why we decided to
sanction with IMCA.”
While the drivers at Vol unteer were partial to the economics of the
class, what the Lovens liked best about the new affliation was the
rules.
“People like to see the Modifieds race,” Mrs. Loven said. “We were
glad to find a sanctioning body who could help us do that.”
Volunteer will be part of IMCA’s Eastern Region. Saturday night point
races will continue into September.
New pitside grandstand seating for 1,000 was added at Bulls Gap last
season and a two-story pavilion on the facility site awaits finishing
touches before opening night this year. |
