(FEBRUARY 26, 2008, PERRIS, CALIFORNIA) After a week off, dirt track racing returns to Southern California this Saturday, March 1st, when Perris Auto Speedway hosts the high speed Extreme Late Models, PASSCAR Modifieds & Street Stocks and the debut of the brand new Pick-A-Part Factory Stock Class. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 6:30.
The debut of the Pick-A-Part Factory Stocks has drawn the attention of a lot of people who want to race, but who do not have a big budget. It is an entry-level class that will allow anyone on the track without having to re finance their house.
Complete rules are available at perrisautospeedway.com, but in short, the theme is fairly simple. The cars must be stock! Any American 2-door, 4-door or station wagon is legal as long as it has a 108-inch minimum wheelbase, weighs a minimum of 3,500 pounds and has an automatic transmission. They must retain a stock look. Front or rear wheel drive is fine. No four wheel drive cars allowed. As stated in the rules, “Before you do anything – THINK STOCK!”
The only modifications are safety factors such as mandatory fuel cells, roll cages, the removal of all glass, fire suits, etc.
“The reason for this class is to allow new drivers into the sport. If someone is on a budget and wants to give racing a try, this is a cheap, fun way to get started,” PAS promoter Don Kazarian recently stated from behind his desk. “It is a learning class and hopefully drivers will use it to get track time and move up to some of our other classes in the future if they wish.”
Kazarian went on to speak of the involvement of Pick-A-Part in the new class. “Ted Smith’s Pick-A-Part has been a longtime sponsor of ours and we are pleased to have them involved in this project. They have thrown 100% of their support to this class. Anyone who is looking for a car to race in the Factory Stocks can give Pick-A-Part call (Riverside 951 685-6744, San Bernardino 909 884-5308, Ontario 909 390-5270, Monrovia 626 445-2922) and they will get you dialed in.”
Kazarian did caution about one thing regarding this new, low cost class. Cheating will not be tolerated. “We had an entry level class here a few years ago. Drivers and crews bending the rules became a huge problem,” he said. “That is not going to happen again. To put it simply, if you get caught cheating, you are going to get booted out. I cannot emphasize that enough. It will not be worth the risk”
Saturday’s four-ring circus of high speed racing, bent fenders and family fun will include qualifying for the Late Models and heats & main events for all four classes.
