Russell Motorsports Gears up for 08'

Posted by Tom Ames | 02/28/08

Over the past few months, The Russell Motorsports crew has been busy getting things in order for the 2008 season. As many of you already know, the final race of the 2007 season was disastrous for the team, leaving their home race track with a trailer full of wrecked parts and a wrecked race car.

Through the long winter months, the team has been working hard to fix and rebuild the racecar for the 2008 season. The chassis spent a little over a month at Hico Fabrication where the frame was straitened, and a new body was hung on the car. From there the chassis went to Powdertech to be re-coated and the body went to Krash Menders auto body to be painted.

The crew has spent the last few weeks assembling the car for the annual car shows. Just last weekend the car was set down on the floor for the first time of the season and the 305 C.I. engine was set in. The body has just come back from being lettered by Bob Ogren at A1 Graphics and is just about ready to go on the car. The car is back up at Hico Fabrications right now having a few more panels made before it is ready for the shows.

Towards the end of the 2007 race season, the team purchased a new truck and trailer to haul the car to the races. The crew has been feverishly working over the past few weeks to get the crew cab dually and the 38' 5th wheel trailer ready for the upcoming season.

The first few events on the Russell Motorsports schedule for 2008 are the annual springtime car shows. Fans can look for the Northstar Chevrolet #27 sprint car at the 2008 Motorsports Expo Show at the New York State Fairgrounds on March 7th- March 9th. Fans will also be able to find the sharp looking number 27 sprinter at the Rotterdam Square Mall car show on March 14th- March 16th.

The first few races of the season on the schedule will be the 360 open at Fonda Speedway, the ASCS Patriots opener on May 3rd at Fulton Speedway followed by an ESS event at Utica Rome on May 25th. The first CRSA race of the season is slated for May 30th at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park.

Jami would like to thank his crew; Rob Russell, Scott Loomis, and Steve Miller for their help getting the race car together in time for the 2008 car shows as well as Hico Fabrications, Krash Menders, Northstar Chevrolet, Patterson Motorsports and Pancho's Racing Products as he looks forward to the 2008 Race Season!

Look for the #27 sprinter in a victory Lane near you this summer!

Jami Russell #27
