BROCKVILLE-A jam packed schedule full of special events, regular shows and the return of racing in October has been released by Brockville Ontario Speedway. The racing season will begin on Saturday May 17th and close with the first ever Sprint Car Challenge on Saturday October 18th.
"Some people think there isn't alot of diversity in racing on dirt, well if they come out to our track this season they can see Big Block Modifieds, Small Block Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks, 4 cylinder cars, vintage racing machines, Sprint Cars from three different travelling series, not to mention those wacky enduro cars," said Promoter Paul Kirkland. "That's a lot of variety for our quarter mile oval, and we are really excited about what we will be able to showcase for the fans of Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec and Northern New York.
The weekly Saturday night programs that begin at 7pm will feature the DIRT Sanctioned 358 Modifieds and Sportsman along with Street Stocks and 4 cylinder Rookie machines. McNamee Concrete will also sponsor semi regular appearances by the Vintage cars and Enduro cars will enjoy the odd Saturday night run as well.
3 Different DIRT tour races will highlight the schedule. The DIRT big block Modifieds will make their annual visit to the Beast of the East on Thursday, July 10th for a 100 lap event that will be tag teamed with a Super DIRT series event for the Sportsman. The 358 Modifieds will have two special 100 lap shows of their own, the first on August 2nd as part of the popular Canadian DIRT Challenge series. That night will also include the first ever Lucas Oil Sportsman event at the track. The Small Blocks take another 100 lap tour on September 6th as part of the Super DIRT Series. Back by popular demand is a 358 Modified run what you brung event on September 13th that has come to be known as the "What has Stephane come up with this time" 30 lap feature.
Sprint Car fans will get a healthy helping of the wheeled warriors including the first ever appearance, east of Brighton by the Southern Ontario Sprint car series on May 31st. Former Brockville regular Rick Wilson has always been a force to be dealt with when he arrives to run with the SOS and this time he'll be operating on his home turf. The Empire Super Sprints series will be in Brockville on July 19th and August 16th. The final sprint event will be the first ever three series October 18th spectacular on October 18th.
"We've been experimenting a little the past few years with an October sprint car event," said Kirkland. "I think this format of having the SOS, ESS and the American Sprint Car Series together much like they have in the past during Super DIRT Week might be what our fans have been looking for. I'm sure excited just thinking about it." Two enduros are set for a pair of Sundays, June 15th and September 21st.
There will open practice at the track from 1 until 4pm on May 10th, with Mulders Machine and Welding celebrating their 20th anniversary by bringing fans Opening night 2008 on May 17th at 7pm.
