FIFTH ANNUAL EARL HALAQUIST MEMORIAL BACK AT FONDA (N.Y.)

AND SANCTIONED BY LUCAS OIL EMPIRE SUPER SPRINTS

FONDA, NEW YORK (February 27, 2008) - The family of National Sprint Car Hall of Fame (NSCHoF) inductee Earl Halaquist is pleased to announce that the fifth annual Earl Halaquist Memorial will again be hosted by the Fonda Speedway and sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS). The 2008 date for the event is Saturday, May 31, and it will pay the winner $2,000. Former winners include Blake Breen (2004), George Suprick (2005), Chuck Hebing (2006), and Justin Barger (2007).

According to Dennis Halaquist, son of the six-time United Racing Club (URC) champion, “Our family is so excited that our father’s accomplishments are not being forgotten within the sprint car racing community of New York State. Dad was so proud to call Sidney, New York, home that it’s special for us to have his memorial race be held at nearby Fonda Speedway and be sanctioned by the Empire Super Sprints club. We also want to thank the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Iowa, for all that they have done in keeping my father’s spirit alive on the national level.”

The fifth annual Earl Halaquist Memorial at Fonda Speedway will be part of the 25th anniversary tour of the Lucas Oil ESS tour for winged 360-cubic-inch sprint cars. It is the only sprint car event scheduled in New York State on Saturday, May 31, so a quality field of international racers from New York, Ontario, Quebec and possibly New England is expected to contest this prestigious event. Last year, 29 racers signed into the pits for the Earl Halaquist Memorial at the self-proclaimed “Track of Champions”.
