SUNDAY AFTERNOONS AT THE GROVE MARCH 9 AND 16
MECHANICSBURG, PA -- The sprint car teams will have the pit area
to themselves on Sunday afternoon, March 9, when Williams Grove Speedway
will try for the third time to open its 2008 racing season.
Winter weather forced cancellation of the first two scheduled dates
on February 24 and March 2.
There will be no support division and no time trials this week.
The first heat is scheduled to start at 2:00.
While sprint car fans have proven in the past that they will brave
the elements of winter to watch a race, Williams Grove officials will
make every attempt to provide a quick and efficient program for them on
Sunday afternoon.
"We realize racing in early March is always a battle with the
weather," said Williams Grove general manager Justin Loh. "We
appreciate the support of our fans, and just in case it is cold, we
won't ask them to sit through too many races, which is why we scheduled
only sprint cars for the first few weeks of the season."
Another program of sprint car racing is set for Sunday afternoon,
March 16.
Although only sprint cars will be in competition on March 16, two
other divisions which will compete regularly throughout the season have
been offered an opportunity to practice,
The limited (358 c.i.) sprint cars and the super sportsman cars
will be given track time on March 16, which will be the final afternoon
of racing.
Williams Grove will switch to its Friday night schedule on March 21.
The first double bill of the season is slated for the first Friday
night date. Sprint cars and limited (358 c.i.) sprints will provide
the racing on March 21.
The Grove will close the month of March with racing on Friday and
Saturday, March 28 and 29.
Sprints and late model stock cars will be featured on March 28.
The Saturday Night Series will begin on March 29 with super
sportsman cars, limited late models, 4-cylinder stock cars and an enduro
on the card.
