A stellar season at Edelweiss Speedway in 2008
Cantley, PQ – With less than 2 months to go before the beginning of the 2008 season, the owner of Edelweiss Speedway are expecting another great year and wants to give to dirt fans, some great shows throughout the summer.
Big shows
A total of 19 events are on the schedule for this summer. The opening night will be on May 16 with the presentation of a 50 lap feature race for modifieds plus a complete race program. The Empire Super Sprints have 3 dates scheduled in 2008. They will be at the speedway on July 18, August 15 and September 19, to conclude the season in fashion. On that same night, the semi-pro category will have a 50 lap feature event. The Canadian DIRT Challenge will be back on August 1st with 100 laps for the modifieds. Last year, it is no less than 38 cars that were present in the pits. The MrDIRTcar series for Pro-Stock is also on the schedule on September 5, the winner of the 100 lap race will receive a cool cheque worth $1500. A total of $7000 in purse will be given for this feature. The Mohawk Race Part Series for Pro-Stocks will also return this year on August 15, with a 50 lap race. The modified will also have another 50 lap feature race on July 4 and also on that night the street stock challenge will be held with a 35 lapper for the semi-pro, last year, nearly 30 cars showed up for this race. Along with the year-end enduro, 4 slick track enduro and also 4 races for the 4 wheelers were added.
2 special nights
Included in the schedule will be 2 special night. On July 4th and August 15, the speedway will gather donations for 2 foundations located in the Outaouais region. We will have more details for those nights shortly.
New Colors
The Edelweiss Speedway staff will have new colors at the start of the season. With the generosity of La Pépinière du Golf who is sponsoring the official shirts and Sérimage who will take care of the rest of the employees. Everyone will have new uniforms. The colors will be black and orange.
New Category
A new class will join the ranks in 2008. The mod-lite, a project started by Dean Pronovost. Very popular in New-York State and Merritville Speedway, the mod-lite will be divided in 2 categories, the 1000cc and 600cc, already 10 cars will be present to start the year and M.Pronovost would like to finish the year with around 15-20. The week-end of May 3 & 4 have been reserved for practice for those cars. Paul Klager and Chris Long will make the haul from the Merritville area to help the local drivers. May 3rd will be for drivers only and May 4th, people will be able to come to the speedway to see those cars in action. There will be 3 mod-lite invitational nights with drivers coming from Delaware, New-York State and Merritville to compete against our local guys. About a dozen drivers have showed some interest in visiting us. This class will be something to watch.
Other categories
The modifieds which is the main class at Edelweiss will return with 14 races for them on the schedule. Two new drivers will join the group with Joel Doiron making a return to competition and Nicolas Vaillant who will make the jump from the Pro-Stocks. All the regulars will be back. The Pro-Stock category have 7 races on the schedule with a special points fund championship with Thunder Alley Speedway, driver will be able to accumulate point to be eligible to DIRTcar bonus points given during the year. The class to watch this year will be the semi-pro, with more than 20 cars in action and half of them can win the feature, nobody can predict who will win the championship. In the 4 cylinders, many drivers will return to give the fans some great shows.
Annual Banquet
The annual banquet will be held on Saturday, March 29 at R.A Centre in Gatineau. We will take that moment to relive the best moments of 2007 and give awards to the best drivers of last summer.
Exhibition & Press Conference
An outside exhibition for the race cars and a press conference is in the plans for Saturday, April 26. More details to follow on this event.
Season Tickets and Contact Info
The fans, who want to purchase some season tickets for next summer, can reserve now. The cost for General Admission will be 200$ and it will be 300$ for the season for a pit admission.
