It all comes down to just one more week as votes continue to be cast from around the country to determine the inaugural Alltel All-Star. Voters have until Sunday, March 16 before the final ballots will be tabulated and one driver will collect the $12,000 grand prize posted by Alltel Wireless.
Only drivers that won a feature race during the 37th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals, Feb. 5-16, 2008 at Volusia Speedway Park in Florida are eligible.
Among the 18 winners are four Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series drivers currently on the ballot after winning at the half-mile to kick off the 2008 campaign down south. Representing New Jersey are Florida Tour co-champions Brett Hearn and Billy Pauch along with Garden State star Jimmy Horton, while Dale Planck was the lone winner from New York State .
Pauch captured the opening round A-Main and swapped positions with reigning overall Mr. DIRTcar Modified points king Brett Hearn on the second night. Planck broke the Jersey stronghold in the third 30-lapper while Horton collected $5,000 for his triumph in the 50-lap tour finale.
Dave Hess, who won a UMP DIRTcar Modified event during the recent Alltel DIRTcar Nationals, currently leads the overall voting over sprint car driver Wayne Johnson, who was victorious with the All Star Circuit of Champions. Horton has earned 2.8% of the national vote, followed by Pauch (2.4%), Hearn (1.7%) and Planck (1.5%).
Voting is being conducted online at www.alltelallstar.com through 11:59 p.m. EST on Sunday, March 16.
