Bridgeport Speedway to wave the green flag on 2008 season on April 5.

BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY TO WAVE THE GREEN FLAG ON THE 2008 SEASON ON APRIL 5



BRIDGEPORT, NJ (March 9, 2008) - The 37th racing season at Bridgeport Speedway will begin on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 6:00 PM with the inaugural event of the Bridgeport – New Egypt Modified Challenge Series (30 lap feature- $3000 to win). This new eight race series for the Big Block Modifieds will carry its own point chase and all Modifieds attempting to qualify on opening night will receive 50 competition points toward the 2008 Bridgeport Modified Point chase as well. Joining the Modifieds on opening night will be the 358 Sportsman, GM Sportsman, Rookie GM Sportsman and Outlaw Stocks.



In the previous 36 season opening events for the Modifieds, a total of 21 different drivers have won at Bridgeport Speedway. Kenny Brightbill and Doug Hoffman are tied with the most feature wins (4) on opening day. Jimmy Horton and Gary Gollub have claimed 3 feature wins on opening day. Tim Fuller is the only driver to have his lone career Bridgeport Speedway win occur on opening day (2003). The new hot shoe of Sal DeBruno’s famed South Jersey Overhead Doors ‘0-Car’, Richie Pratt looks to become the first driver since Jimmy Horton (1998 & 1999) to win consecutive openers. The winner of the opening day Big Block Modified feature has won the Bridgeport Speedway Modified Championship in the same year on 6 different occasions. Duane Howard was the last driver to win the opening event and the season title accomplishing this feat in 2006.



On Friday, April 11 at 7:00 PM, Bridgeport Speedway’s 1/4 mile racing season will kickoff. The 600cc Micro Sprints and 270cc Micro Sprints will be racing in 25 lap $500 to win events. Also, the popular 4 Cylinder Stock Cars and Slingshots will be in action.



Prior to the 2008 season openers, a few other events are on the agenda. “Gear Up Day” will occur on Saturday, March 15 from 10:00 AM till 4:00 PM at the Speedway. Pit licenses, pit parking spots and track tires will be available for purchase. Also, Bridgeport Speedway tech staff will be on hand for Friday and Saturday night race teams wishing to bring their cars to the track to complete mandatory New Jersey Safety Tech Inspection. All prospective 2008 Rookie GM Sportsman competitors are reminded to contact Jessica James at 302-875-4196 to register for the upcoming season. Also, any Crate class competitors who have purchased engines through another source other than Bridgeport Speedway will need to have their engine sealed by the Bridgeport Speedway Technical team. Practice day for the 5/8 mile speedway is scheduled for Saturday, March 29 with the Pit Gates slated to open at 9:00 AM. 1/4 mile speedway practice day will occur on Friday, April 4 with the Pit Gates opening at 5:00 PM.

Billed ‘The Fastest Dirt Track in the East’, Bridgeport Speedway is a banked 5/8th mile dirt oval, featuring a dirt 1/4 mile oval embedded in the center, and is located in Southern New Jersey -- just minutes from Pennsylvania and Delaware at exit 14 off of I-295.
