paul guererri steps up to big-block for 2008!

After 27 DIRTcar Sportsman Modified feature wins, and two track championships at Canandaigua Speedway, Paul Guererri is ready to make the long awaited move to DIRTcar Big-Block Modified racing.

Guererri will continue as a full-time competitor at Canandaigua Speedway in 2008, but will have to go through quite the learning curve moving from a 350-horse crate engine to the 800+ horsepower big-block.

“In ways it is like I am going to have to re-learn everything all over again,” said Guererri. “But really I’m just going to go out there and drive like I always have. The biggest adjustment is going to be adapting to the throttle response.”

As always when making a jump such as this, Guererri wants to be consistent and stay out of trouble in his rookie Big-Block season.

“When you move up to this division you are running against the best drivers around. If we can stay out of trouble, run smooth, and contend for top5 finishes I will be happy.”

crate motor program is solid for canandaigua, ccfs, and rwr in 2008!

Canandaigua, Cayuga County , and Rolling Wheels Raceways are fully committed to the Crate Engine Program for 2008 and beyond, amidst false rumors that the factory sealed 350-horsepower #8602 engines will be eliminated by GM after this season.

““GM Performance Parts will continue to supply factory-sealed 350 (8602), 355 (8603), and 400 (8604) horsepower circle track engines to the grassroots racing community in 2008 and into the indefinite future,” said Special Programs Manager for General Motors, Bill Martens. “The program has grown every year for the past five years, and with expanded interest in 2008, we fully expect this pattern to continue for many years in the future.”

Canandaigua, Cayuga County , and Rolling Wheels General Manager Jack Deery has had nothing but positive thoughts on the program.

“It has really helped out our Sportsman division as far as car counts and competition. This program offers our current drivers options to stay in the sport for an extended period of time, and offers new racers an affordable means to get started.”

Check back next month when we will have a rundown of the series season opener at Hagerstown , as well as final pre-season thoughts heading into mid-April.
