CRAIG DOLLANSKY TOPS STRONG GROVE FIELD
MECHANICSBURG, PA ? Craig Dollansky outran an exceptional field to win the 25-lap sprint car feature Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway.
Dollansky, the World of Outlaws regular from Elk River, Minnesota, started on the pole and wired the field to score his third career victory at Williams Grove.
With an open weekend on the WoO schedule, Dollansky led a strong contingent of Outlaws into Williams Grove including Joey Saldana, who finished second to make it a 1-2 sweep for the travelers.
Saldana started third and took the runnerup spot from Cody Darrah following a lap 15 restart. Saldana was unable to close on Dollansky, who was clearly the class of the field.
Darrah, the 18-year old Red Lion, Pa., resident, turned in an impressive performance to finish third after starting fourth.
Fred Rahmer came from the ninth starting spot to claim fourth and maintain his lead in the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass point standings.
Chad Layton completed the top five after starting seventh.
Stevie Smith, Brian Paulus, Greg Hodnett, Lance Dewease and Brian Leppo completed the top ten.
The field also included NASCAR star Kasey Kahne, who finished fourteenth.
Heats for the 35 sprint cars in attendance were won by Hodnett, Tony Bruce, Jr., Dollansky and Paulus. Lucas Wolfe copped the consolation race.
Pat Cannon won the 20-lap limited (358 c.i.) sprint feature following an exciting duel with Dave Calaman.
Cannon took the lead with an inside move exiting the fourth turn on the 19th lap.
Calaman settled for second.
Ott, still a few days shy of his 16th birthday, finished third. Kevin Nouse and Chad Criswell completed the top five.
Brad McClelland, John Westbrook, Nouse and Pat Cannon captured heats for the 48 limited sprint cars in competition. Chad Trout and Joey Borich won the consolation races.
