SYRACUSE, N.Y. – It’s exciting, fun-filled, lucrative and historic. With this comes the announcement of the 25th Anniversary tour for the Empire Super Sprints (ESS). It started with the announcement of Lucas Oil as the tour sponsor and is now followed up with 31 dates from April 12th to October 18th. New events, returning tracks, increased purses, weekend point funds and for the first time ever…one on the asphalt.
The 25th Anniversary celebration gets its first green flag at the Black Rock Speedway on Saturday night, April 12th. The event marks the return of the Dundee oval as a full point show for the first time since August of 2003. Also returning to the ESS schedule after 21 years to the day will be a look forward to visit to Howie Commander’s high banked Lebanon Valley Speedway to kick off Kings Weekend.
For the first time ever, ESS will trek to Pennsylvania and put on what is expected to be a wild show at the Clinton County Raceway under new promoter Vern Wasson. That will make for a new one/two weekend with Wasson’s other speedplant, the Woodhull Raceway.
The other first time ever event on the Lucas Oil sked. Is ESS’ maiden voyage on the blacktop and a June 28th event at the famed Oswego Speedway. It’s billed at the “Assault on the Asphalt” where 20 ESS stars will take their winged dirt sprinters to the 5/8ths mile asphalt oval for what is hoped to be a headline making event.
“We are very excited with our 25th Anniversary schedule.” noted by ESS President Chuck Miller. “With the state of auto racing in flux, we are proud to increase our schedule with almost all of our events now at $2,000 to win. We’re bringing in special weekend point funds that total $5,000 so far and have increased all of our sponsorships which will see the teams racing for more money than ever before.”
Familiar events make up the bulk of the 31 event schedule with Utica-Rome, Autodrome Granby, Drummond and Autodrome Edelweiss Speedway hosting three point shows each. All events are $2,000 to win as well.
