Jerry Higbie Heading Back To Keystone State For Big Diamond Big Block Opener.

Jerry Higbie Heading Back To Keystone State For Big Diamond Big Block Opener.

By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

Northeastern Modified Star Jerry Higbie will make his second Pennsylvania appearance of the 2008 season this coming Saturday night, March 29th, as he points his Jerry Higbie Racing Team towards the Big Diamond Raceway located in Forestville, Pennsylvania. The event will be the lid-lifter for Big Diamond as the popular raceway welcomes in the Big Block Modifieds for a 40-lap feature event that will find the winner taking home a fat $4,000.00 for his efforts. For the popular Higbie, he is looking forward to some much better results than he experienced at the recent Selinsgrove ROC event a couple of weeks ago.

At the Selinsgrove event, Higbie's Bicknell Chassis/Precision Powered mount hooked a rut on the unruly racing surface, dug deep into the mud and the now-wounded racer was hurled sideways into the fence, ending Higbie's efforts pre-maturely in the event. While the car suffered much damage, Higbie truly enjoyed the racing experience at Selinsgrove and is hoping for a return to the track should a race be scheduled in the future for the facility. All was not lost for the talented Higbie as he did pick up the the Accord Bonus posted by Accord Promoter Gary Palmer for the best finishing Accord regular during the event.

The Higbie Racing Team, headed up by Jerry Higbie Sr, immediately went to work on the damaged racer and have worked feverishly to put the car back together for the Team's second assualt into Pennsylvania in two weeks. Higbie is looking forward to the event as he has always enjoyed racing at Big Diamond and is seeking as turnaround in his fortunes as he prepares for the 40-lap encounter.

Higbie has an aggressive schedule prepared for the 2008 racing season. He kicked off his year in early January by participating in his first ever Chili Bowl and the "Slate Hill Statesman" made the quick adaptation to the powerful little beasts as he wired the field in his heat race. With a points formula determined as to who moves on to which portion of the alphabet, Higbie moved to the fourth A-Qualifier where once again the smooth driving Modified star drove a great race to finish in the fifth transfer slot, a finish that would enable him to move forward into one of the B-Main events. A seventh place finish in the B-Main ended his night but Higbie performed well throughout the event and drew the acclaim from the crowd and the tremendoud roster of drivers he was competing against.

The remainder of the 2008 racing schedule for Higbie will find him in the thick of the action as he prepares to run for the Accord Speedway and Orange County Fair Speedway Championships this year. He will also be racing for the ROC title. For the Accord and ROC events, Higbie will race his signature numbered 97 cars and for his assualt on OCFS and select WRG Series Races, Higbie will once again strap himself into the Team Shaver numbered 47 equipment. Sponsorship for the Teams comes from a great group of loyal sponsors who have supported Higbie throughout his career. Mid-City Transit, Mr K's Carpet Service, Behrent's Speed Center, SKJ Towing, BadaBing Pizza, and Embroidery Wizard have all lent their support to the 97 cars, and Beaverkill Trout Hatchery, Superior Building Supply, Woodburne Lawn & Garden, and Frieghtliner Trucks of Newburgh lend their support to the Shaver Team. In addition to his Big Block rides, Higbie will be slipping behind the belts of the Affordable Transmission numbered 17 for a run at the 358 Small Block title at OCFS.

Jerry Higbie Racing would like to thank the entire racing community for their support and well wishes as the team prepares for an aggressive schedule in racing this year.
