BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY IS READY TO GO GREEN FOR THE 2008 SEASON OPENER



BRIDGEPORT, NJ (March 30, 2008) - With the annual 5/8 mile practice day completed, Bridgeport Speedway is ready to go green with the first dirt oval racing event in the Garden State in 2008 on Saturday, April 5 at 6:00 PM.

The highlight of opening night is the first race of the Bridgeport – New Egypt Modified Challenge Series (30 lap feature- $3000 to win). This new eight race series for the Big Block Modifieds will carry its own point chase and many drivers have announced their plans to follow this exciting new series in New Jersey. All Big Block Modifieds attempting to qualify on opening night will receive 50 competition points toward the 2008 Bridgeport Modified Point chase as well. Select Bridgeport and New Egypt Big Block Modified drivers will be available for an autograph session during the opening day festivities.



Joining the Big Block Modifieds on opening night will be the 358 Sportsman, GM Sportsman, Rookie GM Sportsman and Outlaw Stocks. Pit Gates will open at 12:00 PM, Grandstand Gates open at 4:00 PM and Warm-Ups will begin at 5:15 PM. Pit Admission is $25 with a license and $35 without a license. General Admission tickets are $18 for adults. Kids 12 and under are admitted for free. Recently, Bridgeport Speedway Management announced that any 2008 track license would be honored on April 5 and April 12. Also, any 13 x 92 track tire will be honored as well, as long as the track tire is American Racer 44 or 48 compound.



On Saturday, March 30, brisk March winds and sunny skies greeted the nearly 110 drivers who participated at practice day on the big 5/8 mile oval. Big Block Modified drivers on hand included Wade Hendrickson, Richie Pratt, Mike Frantz, and Chic Cossaboone. Rookie Big Block Modified Drivers Chris Knopp and Matt Harrell were impressive in their practice runs. 358 Sportsman competitors shaking down their 2008 rides included defending champion Kevin Collins, veteran Ron Roberts, Randy Yaple, John Purcell and Jimmy Horton IV. A bumper crop of 10 GM Sportsman rookie drivers including Tom Moore Jr., Neil Williams, and Doug Urbano took to the track in preparation for their chase to the Rookie title in 2008. United Racing Company (URC) sprint drivers including Chris Coyle, Ed Aiken, Davey Sammons, and Robbie Stillwagon were on hand as well. The 2008 opener for the URC Sprints will take place at Bridgeport Speedway on Saturday, April 12 at 6:00 PM.



Bridgeport Speedway’s 1/4 mile speedway practice day is slated for Friday, April 4 at 7:00 PM with the Pit Gates opening at 4:00 PM. General Grandstand Admission is free to the public. Pit Admission is $20 with a license and $30 without a license. The 1/4 mile racing season will take the green flag on Friday, April 11 at 7:00 PM featuring $500-to-win events for the 600cc Micro Sprints and the 270cc Micro Sprints. Additionally, 4 Cylinder Stock Cars and the Slingshots will join the racing action.



Billed ‘The Fastest Dirt Track in the East’, Bridgeport Speedway is a banked 5/8th mile dirt oval, featuring a dirt 1/4 mile oval embedded in the center, and is located in Southern New Jersey -- just minutes from Pennsylvania and Delaware at exit 14 off of I-295.
