(Woodhull, NY) After a successful 2007 which saw a terrific increase in young race fan attendance, Woodhull Raceway owner, Vern Wasson will once again implement the tracks Youth Movement as part of the 2008 agenda at the historic Steuben County oval.
“The programs that we had in place last season worked perfectly, stated the third year track owner. Kids were involved in the weekly re-draw for the qualified driver’s; we had a Junior Fan of the Week Award presented every Saturday, last July we gave away some 60 bicycles. This year we plan on getting the kids involved in the show even more.”
In addition Wasson will once again have the services of two young people as part of his 2008 Woodhull Raceway staff. Semi-retired NAPA Super Stock competitor and former Woodhull Raceway feature winner, Kyle Lefelhoc of nearby Mansfield, Pa. will once again working very closely with the track management this season in numerous capacities as he did last season.. Lefelhoc will once again be Wasson’s right hand man this season as he continues his plans on learn everything he can in regards to managing the race facility. Also, Jasper Troupsburg High School Junior, Shelby Button will re-join the Woodhull family of employees in 2008. Shelby brings with her a tremendous amount of public speaking experience not only through her school related studies, but she is also heavily involved as a spokes person in her local 4-H group. She will be back in the broadcast booth working along side of Morgan Colegrove and Kenny Shupp JR. She will also be involved in writing several columns for the weekly track publication, The Checkered Flag Magazine.
“Shelby and Kyle both worked out great for us last season stated Wasson. Having Kyle there on race day has made a huge difference on how well things flowed. He a young, likeable guy and has a very good open line of communication with the drivers. Having Shelby working with Kenny and Morgan makes it a nice trio of announcers. She comes from a racing family and on top of her announcing capabilities she is also a very good writer.”
Button still has one more year of high school and Lefelhoc recently finished up his college education at Mansfield.
The season opener is set for Saturday, April 19 with Joe Willcox Performance Automatics of Westfield, Pa. sponsoring the lid lifter.
