2008 DIRTcar Regional Point Fund Awards Shared By Top Sportsman Teams

Posted by Tom Ames | 04/01/08

Weedsport, NY – March 30, 2008 – By Tom Skibinski , DIRTcar Racing NorthEast PR Director

The DIRTcar Weekly Racing regional points program created in 2006 will continue to remain in effect for a third successive season with DIRTcar Sportsman Modified teams collecting additional rewards at the end of 2008.

Open-wheel teams in the Big-Block Modified, 358-Modified and Sportsman Modified divisions collected over $45,000 in 2007, with 135 drivers rewarded in the popular regional points program developed by DIRTcar officials to entice further competition around the entire circuit.

“When we first introduced the DIRTcar Regional program two years ago most of the drivers never really knew what to expect,” said DIRTcar NorthEast Director of Competition & Track Sanctioning Cory Reed. “Now beginning our third season there won’t be too many surprises this time around. The secret’s out so I expect the competition to be even stiffer at the weekly tracks since the drivers better understand the rewards waiting when 2008 comes to an end.”

Along with track and overall Mr. DIRTcar point fund awards, DIRTcar Regional Championships will again be on the line for Sportsman teams during the 2008 season. The distribution of Regional Racing Series funds in makes it the most lucrative regional post-season awards program for weekly teams found anywhere.

In 2008, DIRTcar-sanctioned tracks hosting the Sportsman class have been divided into three regions with teams looking to share $10,800 in cash and memberships. Licensed drivers will compete against other within their own region for a series point fund that will reward $3,600 to the top-15 in each. The regional points will be kept separately and they have no direct bearing on any individual track points race.

In each of the three Regional Championships, points will be awarded for the best finishes (15 in West, 12 in North, 15 in Central) in DIRTcar-sanctioned Sportsman events. Legal events may be of any distance and may be either home track point events, part of a special mini-series or special events at tracks within that region. Events held at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park count toward any region with all Regional points ending on Monday, September 1, 2008.

The chase for DIRTcar Racing NorthEast Regional Championships concluded last year on Labor Day after five straight months of wheel-to-wheel, paint-trading action at more than 20 tracks. Crowned champions of their respective DIRTcar Region in the Sportsman Modified ranks were Chris Higgins (Northern), Shawn Donath (Central) and Don Spatorico (Western).
