Susquehanna, PA… Another season of exciting stock car racing is only weeks away at Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania. The Opening Night of racing, sponsored by Boughton’s Auto Salvage, is scheduled for Friday April 25th. The mighty modifieds will be joined by a strong field of late models, sportsman, super stocks, and pure stocks. The four cylinders will be making their first start one week later.
Penn Can Speedway has scheduled practice days on Sunday April 13th, Friday April 18th, and Sunday April 20th. All of these dates will be held weather permitting. Any race cars in the area looking to test and tune for the season, are welcome to participate. Push trucks will be on hand for the full size sprint cars and the CRSA sprinters. Gates will open at noon for the Sunday sessions with practice at 1:00. The Friday practice will have the gates opening at 5:00 with the test and tune at 6:30.
Penn Can Speedway will be the place to race on Friday’s during the 2008 season with one of the strongest fields of race cars in the area. The modified division will be stacked with topnotch competition. Mike Gular of Harleysville, PA will return to defend his title. His competition will come from eight time modified champion Brian Weaver of Windsor, New York. Joining these two drivers will be a host of competitors capable of parking their mounts in Victory Lane. Jeff Rudalavage is coming off a great return to racing at Penn Can where he won the season ending King of the Can ROC race and a strong second place in points. Billy Thornton, Joey Grammes, Alan Rudalavage, Mike Colsten, Mike Nagel, Brett and Garth Tonkin, plus many others will be Friday night stars at Penn Can.
A number of modified drivers plan to make their return to Penn Can in 2008. Multi-time feature winner Chris Weaver has indicated he will be at Penn Can every Friday. Long time veteran Dave Jenkins is planning on a strong return. Former Five Mile Point Champion and Penn Can feature winner Dan Vauter will also call Penn Can home during the 2008 campaign. Word has also reached the speedway that former Penn Can Champion Butch Tittle could be making a return to the speedway joining the field of modifieds for the season.
The other divisions look just as strong for the year. Late Model champion Dave Zona will be racing at Penn Can in 2008. Modified racing plans have been put on hold and he will return to defend his championship. Multi-time feature winners Tracy Gregory, Randall Paxton, Bud Phillips, and Chad Hollenbeck will be the main late model competition. In the sportsman division 2008 champion Jeff Crambo will be back to defend his championship. He will be challenged by the likes of Mike Loney, Dwayne Robbins, Joey Colsten, Dan Pompey, Mike Lartz, Nick Petrilak, Mike Nagel, and many more too numerous to mention.
Denny Decker will return to defend his super stock championship as well as Butch Green in the pure stocks. The four cylinder division will be wide open in 2008. Many new cars have been built and competition looks to be strong.
