"The Statesman From Slate Hill" Jerry Higbie made his second Pennsylvania appearance of the 2008 racing season this past Saturday night at the Big Diamond Raceway located in Forestville, Pennsylvania. The event was the lid-lifter for Big Diamond Raceway in 2008 and the Big Block Modifieds went at it in a 40-lap feature event that found Oley, Pennsylvania hot-shoe Duane Howard winning the event and the $4,000.00 payout for his efforts. Garden State Modified legend Jimmy Horton was a close second. The star-studded event found the popular Higbie starting the event from the 13th position on the starting grid and racing to a solid 9th place finish at the conclusion of the race.
Higbie, who qualified for the event with a third place finish in his heat, suffered some damage during the evening's races as a fellow competitor bounced off the inside guardrail and made contact with Higbie that broke a shock tower on his Mid-City Transit Sponsored Bicknell mount. Higbie was still satisfied with the performance of the car as he was able to complete the 40-laps with a pack of top drivers racing for position that included the likes of Brett Hearn, Ryan Godown, Steve Bottcher, and himself. The event proved to be much better outing than the fate he suffered at Selinsgrove a few short weeks ago when the rough track ended his day early with chassis damage.
The track stayed in fairly good shape all night long and the 50 plus Modifieds in attendance put on a good show for the large crowd on hand for the opening night event.
With the Accord Speedway being the focus of tonight's CARQUEST Gasoline Alley and On-Track TV/Internet Shows, Jerry Higbie will take part in the show to talk about his racing schedule in 2008 as well as his budding HigFab business located in Goshen, New York. Young Danny Tyler and Andy Bachetti will also join in for interviews tonight as well as Accord Promoter Gary Palmer. The shows will air from 6 until 9 PM this evening and are seen on local cable stations Channels 120 and 137 and are tape delayed on Channel 50 at 11 PM. Higbie's aggressive 2008 racing schedule will find him in the thick of the action as he prepares to run for the Accord Speedway and Orange County Fair Speedway Championships this year. He will also be challenging for the ROC title. For the Accord and ROC events, Higbie will race his signature numbered 97 cars and for his assualt on OCFS and select WRG Series Races, Higbie will once again strap himself into the Team Shaver numbered 47 equipment. Sponsorship for the Teams comes from a great group of loyal sponsors who have supported Higbie throughout his career. Mid-City Transit, Mr K's Carpet Service, Behrent's Speed Center, SKJ Towing, BadaBing Pizza, and Embroidery Wizard have all lent their support to the 97 cars, and Beaverkill Trout Hatchery, Superior Building Supply, Woodburne Lawn & Garden, and Frieghtliner Trucks of Newburgh lend their support to the Shaver Team. In addition to his Big Block rides, Higbie will be slipping behind the belts of the Affordable Transmission numbered 17 for a run at the 358 Small Block title at OCFS.
Jerry Higbie Racing would like to thank the entire racing community for their support and well wishes as the team prepares for a big season in racing this year.
