Capital District New York Modified star Bobby Varin will be among the elite group of Modified stars entering the competition next weekend as the "Track of Champions" Fonda Speedway will swing open it's gates for the annual "Ice Jam" event. The lid-lifter for the speedway will be held on Saturday, April 12th and will mark the 12th year the track has been under the guidance and promotional efforts of Ric Lucia. The event will be headlined by a 40-lap Modified feature event that will pay out $4,000.00 to the winner and a Sportsman event paying out $750.00 to the driver crossing the finish line first. All of the track regulars are expected for the event headed up up by Jack and Ronnie Johnson, Matt DeLorenzo, and Ryan Odasz. A strong contingent of Modified invaders is expected in for the opener as well, including Accord stars Jerry Higbie and Andy Bachetti among others who will make the event a must see for all true racing fans.

The event will provide special significance for the former three-time Modified track Champion Varin as he will heading into competition for the first time against his son Danny, who will be entering the Modified ranks in 2008 aboard the Ed Munger owned Magsarus numbered 93. While the younger Varin will be a rookie hopeful in the Modified division, he has shown remarkably good racing skills and has demonstrated the needed talent to compete in the elite division at the speedway. The 17-year old driver will be a great addition to the Modified wars at Fonda. The Magsarus car is no stranger to the Varin clan as the elder Varin has driven the racer to many top finishes in the past, and will be a quality racer for the younger Varin to kick-off his Modified career aboard.

For the elder Varin, he captured his first Fonda Modified title in 2000, and earned back to back titles in 2005 and 2006. Last year Varin fell just 36-points shy in capturing another title, losing out to small block proponent Matt Delorenzo. Varin won five times during the 2007 Fonda season, a season which saw him rack-up two wins in large paying events at mid-season, and then had a couple of finishes that enabled DeLorenzo to forge ahead down the stretch. Varin hopes to kick-off the new season in grand style and land in the winner's circle and gain the momentum needed to reclaim the title at the challenging Fonda racetrack.

The Varin team, in preparation for the new season, will have great equipment at their disposal to go racing. Once again Varin will slip behind the belts of a new signatured numbered 1J Bicknell race car prepared by the Nancy and Jake Spraker team in an effort to have Varin visit victory lane often throughout the upcoming racing season. A new JPM Big Block powerplant will supply the horsepower to the rear wheels for Varin as he attempts to claim his fourth Fonda Title.

The Varins will also be taking their Sunday night racing to the Utica Rome Speedway. The elder Varin will be once again be handling the driving chores of the Dave Cruickshank owned signature numbered 00 at Utica Rome and the 17 year old Danny will be back in the Charles Tibbitts owned numbered 18, fitted with one of the Varin's 358 motors for his assault on the Modified division.

Bobby and Danny Varin would like to thank all of their sponsors and fans for their strong support during the 2007 season and hope for continued support into the 2008 racing season. More updates will follow for the Varin Racing team efforts.
