Edelweiss Speedway gets along with 2 great causes
Gatineau, PQ – Every one of us knows at least someone with health problems such as the heart or even cancer. The great family of dirt track racing was also touched in the last few years and it is one of the main reasons that Edelweiss Speedway has decided to associate itself with the Heart and Stroke and Cancer Foundations.
Heart and Stroke Foundation of Quebec
Last summer, Serge Lagacé, the Edelweiss Speedway owner lost his wife Simone Belhau who past away because of problems with her heart. On Friday July 4th, it will be the Heart and Stroke Night. For this event, a 50-lap feature for modified which will also be a Syracuse Qualifier will be called the ``Simone 50``. This race will probably be the first of many editions to come.
Quebec Cancer Foundation
Pro-Stock driver, Denis Gauvreau also lost his wife in 2005, Carole Legault who had a long battle against the cancer. On Friday August 15, the Quebec Cancer Foundation will be on the spotlight. The 50-lap feature race for Pro-Stock will have the name of ``Carole Legault 50`` in her honour.
Fundraisers
Each night will have a fundraiser to help out both foundations. The money will be collected in many ways, with the help of JGV Design who will provide stickers in hearts for the heart foundations and ribbons for cancer, the drivers will be invited to participate. Drivers will sell to the fans these stickers and the racecar that will sell the most will receive a gift certificate of $150 from Vieux-Duluth for the heart foundation. We are still looking for a restaurant for the cancer.
Also on these fundraiser nights, the fans will also be able to buy stickers and put them on the car they think will be the feature winner. Everyone that will choose the winner will get a coupon good for a free hot-dog and a soft drink for another race program.
In addition, 1 dollar of each entry on the fundraiser night will go to the foundation. The Speedway is committed to equal each entry for the two events. It will be a total of 2$ for each fan that will go to the foundation.
Press Conference
A Press Conference to announce these 2 nights and also the major events of 2008 at Edelweiss will be held on Saturday, April 26 at 11am in the parking of the Vieux-Duluth located at 56, Gréber Boulevard in Gatineau. Many race cars that are in action at the speedway will be present for this day. If it rains on this day, the press conference will be inside of the restaurant.
