The 25th Anniversary Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints Kicks off at the Black Rock Speedway on April 12th.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - In what typically is a long winter in Upstate New York and Canada, the start of a new season is now here! The 25th Anniversary Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS) is ready to embark on their 31 date tour for 2008 with the first event on Saturday night, April 12th at the Black Rock Speedway in Dundee, N.Y.
The stars and cars of ESS makes their return to the Yates County oval for a full point show for the first time since Aug. of 2003. It will be a historic night as not only will the successful 360 sprint organization be starting their 25th anniversary season, Black Rock is celebrating their 50th anniversary. Fans can expect and action packed evening on the 4/10ths mile oval as ESS will share the pits with 358 Modifieds, who will be racing for $3,000 to win, the New York Modified Midgets and the Central New York Mini-Sprints.
Heading the list of winged machines in the pits will be defending champion Steve Poirier looking to make it two championships in a row. The top drivers looking to dethrone the Quebec native champ will be three time in a row runner-up in points Jeff VanDusen, two-time ESS champion and former Black Rock modified champ Lance Yonge, 2006 champion Alain Bergeron along with Michael Parent, Tommy Wickham, Bubby Kerrick, Mike Stelter and Justin Barger.
With this being the first event of the new year a big field will be on hand. Other drivers expected to be in the pit area will be Cory Sparks, Brian McDonald, Dan Kaszubinski, Doug Emery, Jared Zimbardi, Tim Kelly, Chuck Hebing, former Bully Hill Nationals champ Scott Bonnell, 2007 rookie of the year Normand Beaudreault, three-time champion Gordy Button, Jason Barney, Bryan Howland, two-time Bully Hill champ. George Suprick, Russ Bennett, Lee Ladouceur, Gary Troutman, along with rookie hopefuls Andy Noto, Brandon Warner and Bobby Magner.
Three or four Car Mate Custom Built Trailer heats will start off the action followed by the Lane's Yamaha/Walt's Hobby Dash and the KSE Racing Products B-Main all leading up to the... This will kick off the race to the 2008 Lucas Oil Championship. A special note to fans and competitors, a special practice session has been set up on Friday night where many of the sprint teams will be on hand.
