Apparently Mother Nature is a bigger fan the Pittsburgh Penguins than she is of the Lernerville Speedway! As, for the third consecutive week, rain has cast a red flag over the Action Track at Lernerville Speedway. The Opening Night of the 40th Anniversary Season will be postponed once again, this time until next Friday April 18. Budweiser points will begin for all Fab Four Divisions as soon as the weather cooperates!
With an almost wintry weekend forecast, most, if not all, of the other local tracks and racing programs have also been canceled this weekend. As such, the Greatest, (and, for the next week, only), Show on Dirt will be at Lernerville Speedway this Tuesday April 15 as the World of Outlaws Late Model Series rolls into town for their first rendezvous with the local boys of the 2008 season in the Showdown in Sarvertown sponsored by Y108.
The Showdown in Sarvertown sponsored by Y108 is the first major Super Late Model event in the region this season. The Showdown promises to be an absolute shootout between the elite roster of National Late Model Aces on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series and the stiff competition they will face from the Western Pennsylvania contingent.
Outlaw points leader Billy Moyer is off to a hot start that may reach record-breaking status tonight at the “Rumble on the River IV” at the Virginia Motor Speedway. Moyer has won three consecutive A-Main feature events on the Outlaw Late Model Series tour and nine overall to start the 2008 season. Log on to www.DIRTVision.com tonight to listen online as Moyer attempts to tie the record at Virginia Motor Speedway.
The only other driver to win an Outlaw Late Model event this season is semi-local driver Josh Richards of Shinnston, WV. “Kid Rocket” is always a threat to win and will be a favorite tonight in Virginia and next Tuesday at the Action Track!
Last year’s Rumble on the River III and Showdown in Sarvertown winner Shannon Babb is coming off an impressive run last weekend in the Illini 100 at the Farmer City Raceway where he started last after changing tires during A-Main feature lineup to finish second and almost derail the Moyer Express!
Bear Lake, PA’s Chub Frank, (winner of multiple Late Model races at Lernerville Speedway in recent years, including last year’s Stars of NASCAR Night A-Main feature), is always at the front of the pack on the Action Track. Lernerville Speedway is probably the closest thing to a home track Chubzilla has on the Outlaw schedule.
Reigning Outlaw Champion Steve Francis, Track Record holder Darrell Lanigan, Rick Eckert, Shane Clanton, Clint Smith, Tim McCreadie, Brian Shirley, John Blankenship, and Tim Fuller should all be on hand to stake their claim as the quickest gun at the Showdown in Sarvertown.
Local favorites like Reigning Track Champion Alex Ferree, five-time Track Champions Lynn Geisler and John Flinner will fiercely defend their home turf along with former Track Champions Gary Lyle and Ron Davies. Young guns Matt Lux, Jared Miley and Greg Satterlee will join veterans Bob Wearing Jr., Sam Stile and Davey Johnson in trying to make their mark and do some damage in the 50-lap A-Main feature event.
Regional invaders like David Scott, Dave Hess Jr., Robbie Blair, Dick Barton, Doug Horton, Dan Stone, Jason Covert, Mike Balzano, Ryan Markham, Keith Barbara and Jared Hawkins are all expected to get in the mix as well.
Regional driver and fan favorite Jim Dandy Jr. will be behind the wheel of a familiar car to Lernerville fans, the #5 of Mike Blose. Blose is still recovering from a medical condition, so Dandy will take the wheel of the #5 until Mike is cleared to return to action.
Former Big Block Modified driver Russell King, of the well known “King Bros. Racing” family, is expected to make his area debut in the Super Late Model division.
The Showdown in Sarvertown will also mark the debut of the crate late model division at Lernerville Speedway. 2007 Advance Auto Parts UMP DIRTcar Street Stock Track Champion Mike Pegher Jr. will make his 2008 Lernerville debut behind the wheel of the Lynn Geisler owned #1 Cochran crate late model. He will probably be joined in the division by Dick Barton and Jim Dandy Jr., who may pull double duty in both their Super and Crate late models.
Bryant Hank, who practically grew up in the shadows of the Lernerville Speedway, is looking forward to making his on-track debut at the Action Track after years of turning wrenches for Kenny Schaltenbrand and more recently John Garvin Jr. Hank had an impressive opener at PPMS last Saturday Night with a strong third place finish!
The Showdown in Sarvertown presented by Y108 will feature the World of Outlaws Late Model Series and the UMP DIRTcar Pro Late Models on Tuesday April 15. Reserve Seat Tickets are on sale now by calling the Speedway Office during normal business hours at (724) 353-1511. Please log on to Lernerville.com for more details and ticket prices. |
