Lisle, NY… Thunder Mountain Speedway, a 3/8 mile clay oval located up
in
the hills of Center Lisle, NY will soon be hearing the roar of the
racing motors, but all on a new night. New promoters Dick and Shelly
Stark made the announcement during the off-season that the track, a
former Saturday Night raceway, will switch to a Friday night program
for
the 2008 season, and for the first time in its history will be working
along with sister track Skyline Raceway, a Saturday Night race track
located just to the North.
This coming Friday, April 18^th will mark the start of the new regime
at
the Mountain, and the crew has been hard at work ensuring the
facilities
will be in tip top shape for the start of the racing season.
Two practice sessions were held over the past two weeks, and the track
looked as smooth and fast as ever. The racing competition looked fierce
and strong too, as many drivers of various classes made the trip up to
test and tune their rides.
Five classes will be on the regular race schedule card for Friday
nights, with the Sportsman Modified division as the headline class. The
Sportsman class at Thunder Mountain is an open motor class, and pays a
healthy purse with a $600 top prize and a lower end of $100 to start
the
feature. The Hurricane Street Stocks, formerly the Pure Stock class,
which also boasts one of the better purses in the area with a $300 top
prize and $50 to take the green flag.
New for the 2008 season the IMCA Modifieds will be on hand as a weekly
division, as Thunder Mountain will be a fully IMCA sanctioned facility.
The IMCA Purse shows a top prize of $300 with $50 at the low end. Also
on hand will be the 8 Cylinder Road Warrior class, and the ever popular
4 Cyl Bandit class. Both of these support divisions pay the entire
feature field, and not just the top few.
Something new for the Hurricane Street Stock division, there will be a
Pure Stock/Street Stock Challenge put out to all the non-regular
‘invaders’. On the following Friday Nights, 5/2, 5/23, 6/6, 6/20, 7/11
and 7/25, there will be a $50 bonus incentive to any non-regular
outside
competitor who can come in and best the Thunder Mountain regulars.
Another new item is the Thunder Mountain staff is currently looking
into
a new style of handicapping at the speedway. This new method would help
to give any outsiders more of a fair shake when coming to visit the
speedway, instead of automatically starting in the back as was
customary
before. More Information on both the Pure Stock Challenge and the
Handicapping will be forthcoming.
Thunder Mountain Speedway, the Friday Night Fast Track, your home for
