ALMS/ELDORA/OAKSHADE TIRE RULE SET FOR SATURDAY DEBUT
ROSSBURG, OH (April 14) – A joint announcement released today by officials from Eldora Speedway, Oakshade Raceway and the Sunoco American Late Model Series (ALMS) has revealed their decision for the 2008 tire rule on competing Late Models. Effective with this Saturday’s (April 19) ALMS lid-lifter at Eldora Speedway, the UMP sanctioned series will permit the Hoosier LM 20, 30 or 40 tires.
The move is considered to be cost-effective for the teams, and opens another option for tire selection.
“The numbers 20, 30 and 40 refer to compounds,” stated UMP (United Midwestern Promoters)/ALMS director Sam Driggers, “with 20 being the softest and 40 the hardest of the three tires. In the past, teams had no ‘in-between’ tire and would run the 20’s with a shorter track life, when the 40’s wouldn’t be competitive. The addition of the 30 compound will now narrow that gap.”
Eldora’s Larry Kemp and Oakshade’s Terry & Pam Henricks agreed that there was indeed a need to include the 30 compound and in the long run will save all teams money, while helping to equalize the competition.
Eldora’s ALMS debut will carry sponsorship from SpeedWeasels and will also feature the Moser UMP Modifieds and Advance Auto Parts Stock Cars. Hot laps are slated for 6:00 and the first race is set to take the green flag at 7:30.
