Brewerton, NY – The final inches of snow melted away and after months of anticipation have become reality as fifty engines roared to life Tuesday night at CNY's "D Shaped Demon."
Both regulars and new comers alike took to the 1/3 mile surface in preparation for Friday night's 60th season opener.
Fifteen Big Block Modifieds made their way into the pit area including veteran Tommy Sears Jr. "We think we can compete for wins this year, we have new equipment and are ready to put to the test." Other Mods on hand included Chuck Bower, Johnny Hill and Kyle Lewis.
A couple of local sprint cars were also on hand for the open practice session. Including veteran ASCS Patriot series driver Dave Wickham said simply, "the open practice was a good time to bring out the new 2008 chassis and get a few laps in." While a relatively new comer to the sprint car ranks, Joe Austin Jr said, "if it could go wrong, it has tonight. Wish we had more time." Austin didn't show for his last test and tune session.
Even thou we have yet to see a green flag officially drop, the rumors have already begun to fly, as John Wight has planned to return all three of his Gypsum Express Bicknell's to the Brewerton Speedway for the 2008 season, in hopes of collecting another track championship.
