Sarver, PA (April 18, 2008) The green flag finally flew on the 40th Anniversary Season of the Lernerville Speedway on a beautiful spring evening! But when the checkers flew, it was a foursome of Lernerville Elite pulling into Sheetz Victory Lane. Ed Lynch Jr., Lynn Geisler, Kevin Bolland and Joe Kelley are all former track champions and each have over 25 feature wins to their credit.
Ed Lynch Jr. stole a win from two-time defending track champion Kevin Schaeffer who had checked out on the field powered by a new Kriner’s powerplant. Lynch was in the catbird seat, however, and pounced when Schaeffer got tangled up with a pit-bound Dan Shetler entering turn four. Once out front, Lynch would not be denied and cruised to his 90th career win all time at the Lernerville Speedway, moving him into sole possession of fourth place ahead of Lou Gentile.
Lynn Geisler broke a long winless streak at the Action Track with an exciting win over early leader Keith Barbara. Geisler went winless in 2007 and hadn’t won a feature since July 2006. The win was Geisler’s 107th overall, moving him within 10 feature wins of Bob Wearing Sr. in the Late Model division.
Kevin Bolland is back full time after missing a handful of races last season and wasted no time staking his claim in the Modifed division. Bolland took the lead on lap two from Del Rougeux Jr. Bolland, Rougeux and Tom Winkle put on one heck of a show running three-wide for the lead. Winkle got by Bolland on lap nine and led the next nine circuits, but Bolland would not be denied, retaking the lead on the lap 18 restart with a textbook slide job in turn four. His next stop was Sheetz Victory Lane for his 38th career Lernerville Feature win, placing him one win behind Ed Lynch Sr. for fifth all-time in Modified division.
The main event this evening was the Advance Auto Parts UMP DIRTcar Street Stocks. 39 cars were on hand in the division tonight and the 15 lap feature was highlighted by side-by-side racing the whole way through the field. Bob Egley started third but took the lead on the first lap. A handful of cautions marred the opening laps, but Joe Kelley used the restarts to his advantage and took the lead from Egley in turns one & two on lap 10. When the checkers flew it was Joe Kelley in Victory Lane for the 25th time of his career, moving within two races of second all-time in the Pure/Street Stock division, currently held by Bruce Milbert with 27 feature wins.
A full release will follow later this morning!
