Spring Fling Kicks Off Limaland 2008

(Lima, OH) The 2008 racing season is underway at Limaland Motorsports Park. On a beautiful night in Northwest Ohio, a huge crowd assembled at Ohio's Quarter-Mile of Thunder to watch the drivers knock the rust off. The Elwer Fence Sprints, Professional Computer Company Modifieds and Bud Thunderstock's thrilled the fans with dramatic, late-race passes for the win.

Twenty-eight sprint cars were on hand for the Spring Fling event. The cars were divided up into three heats which were won by Ron Blair, Kent Wolters, and Dennis Yoakam.

The feature found Cory Seeling and Tim Allison on the front row followed by Luke Hall and Rick Boughan. Allison asserted himself early and held off a racey Luke Hall. Allison and Hall battled in every turn until Dwain Leiber and Chad Gullett flipped in turn three. Just before the flip, Hall dove past Allison but tapped the wall on exit. During the red flag, Hall took his damaged car to the infield and returned the lead to Allison.

This set up a classic dash between Allison and Elida's favorite son, Darren Long. Long followed Allison for three laps while sizing him up for the pass. Just as Hall had done, Long dove into a hole left open by Allison upon entry into turn three. Long pulled away from Allison to pick up the feature win. Allison, Miller, Stewart, and Boughan rounded out the top five.

The Professional Computer Company UMP Modifieds began their season on an incredibly fast track which had tremendous grip. Three heats determined the starting field with Andy Bibler, Terry Hull, and Todd Sherman picking up their first heat wins of the year.

Tony Urbine and Zach Schroeder occupied the front row. The 12-car invert really mixed up the starting grid. Schroeder held the early lead while perennial favorites like Hull and Sherman battled towards the front. Several wrecks would cause problems for over half the field and drivers like Luchini, Hull, Sherman, Luedeke, Keller, and Matson suffered the consequences.

Darryl Banks avoided all the mishaps and held a precarious lead over Jon Henry during the latter half of the race. On the final restart, Henry surged past Banks and collected his second feature win at Limaland Motorsports Park. Tony Anderson finished third, Sherman made a remarkable recovery for fourth, and Jeff Babcock took fifth after starting 19th.

The Bud Thunderstock feature took the green flag for the final feature on the night and Earnie Woodard set the pace. Before long, Woodard was joined by Tim Bowen in a battle for the point. Woodard looked to regain his form and started to distance himself from Bowen who came under attack from Kevin Gossard. Gossard passed Bowen by mid-race and set his sights on Woodard.

Gossard seemed faster than Woodard but could manage only to get to his bumper. On the final restart, Woodard left the door open coming out of turn two and Gossard took the opportunity. A successful slide job allowed Gossard to take the win and Bowen followed him to second place. Woodard finished third with Mark Hiatt and Frank Paladino rounding out the top five.

This Friday, Limaland Motorsports Park will hold its first Ladies Night Thunderstock Shootout of the year. The Elwer Fence Sprints, Professional Computer Company Modifieds and Bud Thunderstocks will share the track the ladies. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. with hot laps beginning at 6:30 p.m. Racing begins promptly at 7:30 p.m.
