Thorold, Ontario (April 22) – It’s April 22nd and in just 4 days – the driver of a #22 maybe unknown to Merrittville fans would very much like to take the big win home in the Baron Roofing Spring Sizzler 100 as he begins his Title Defence.

In the history of the 358 Modified Super DIRTcar Series, it hasn’t been uncommon for the title to go to a driver ‘north of the border.’

In fact it happened last season.

For the first time however – the Hoosier Tire-Sunoco Race Fuels Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Championship Driver hailed from the Province of Quebec and not Ontario .

In a unique acceptance speech at last fall’s DIRTcar night of Champions Banquet, Brian Mulligan provided the translation for Mario Clair.

Similarly today, Luke Proulx has translated our questions asked of Mario through team associate Marc Boudreau.

“Starting out … my goal was just to make each race,” relayed Clair, “in the end … I was very happy in earning the title … consistency race in and race out was our key.”

Clair proved that consistency does pay off as the St. Edmund Quebec native did not score a feature win the entire series.

Clair did win last season however at the Brighton Speedway during the Image Factor Applefest Weekend so he is familiar with some of Merrittville’s hometown heroes but has never seen the Thorold track prior to April 26th.

Clair also won the Autodrome Drummond Championship last season in addition to wins at Autodrome Granby while finishing third in the Lucas Oil Canadian Dirt Challenge – the eastern match to our Lucas Oil Shootout.

“We’re approaching this year the same way,” revealed Clair, “one race at a time … we’re hoping for the same consistent finishes … definitely I would like to open up with a win at Merrittville.”

Clair who began racing in 1992 in a Street Stock now campaigns a Batiments JDL-Motel Drummond-Freightliner/Bicknell entry powered by a Morrison motor and has added Integra Shocks as a sponsor.

When Merrittville Speedway’s Baron Roofing Windows and Doors Spring Sizzler 100 takes to the track – Saturday April 26th – visit the visiting #22 and say ‘Bonjour et Bienvenue a Merrittville!’

Your local Dirt Track is where it’s at and it’s at Merrittville Speedway in just 4 Days – Saturday April 26th.
