Season End Awards Rewards Stars from the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – While nightly cash awards gives the stars and cars from the 25th Anniversary Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS) extra incentives at each event, season ending awards will provide extra bonuses as well. While the biggest chunk will come from Lucas Oil itself, Walt’s Hobby, Jereco Competition Engines, Don Ott Racing Engines, Brodix Cylinder Heads and Gater Racing News are already lined up give many special awards.
ESS is starting off its 25th Anniversary celebration, Walt Throne and his well known hobby shop in Syracuse, N.Y. has been helping all in ESS for 21 of those years and Walt’s Hobby is back sponsoring the point fund for the dash series. At each full point show, a special four lap dash is held to give the fans a little something extra. Points are tabulated for each of those dashes with the champion collecting $700 of a $1,000 point fund set up. Second and third in the points will collect $200 and $100 respectively. Walt’s Hobby will also sponsor the dash at the annual 360 Sprint Shootout at the Rolling Wheels Raceway held during Super DIRT Week.

Jere Koch and his successful Jereco Competition Engines is back sponsoring the annual Rookie of the Year award. The driver with minimal sprint and racing experience chosen by officials and board members to have impressed during the year above all will receive $500 in cash. Jereco has been an engine builder for 360 sprint racing for many years and has taken home many ESS championships powering Mike Woodring.
Don Ott Racing Engines is back for a third year sponsoring the Most Improved Driver of the Year award and it is also a $500 cash prize. Ott built engines has been increasing in the ESS fold which included 2006 champion Alain Bergeron. You can also find Ott power with Bubby Kerrick, Cory Sparks and others. Brodix Cylinder Heads has been with ESS since the mid-1990’s and is back again as a major associate sponsor. Not only do they provide a set of heads to an ESS tour traveler at season’s end, but they also provide $500 in cash for the annual Hard Luck Award. Gater Racing News is also been a staunch supporter of ESS and will be back sponsoring the Lap Leader award for 2008. The driver that leads the most laps this season will pick up $300 cash from Gater as well as other prizes. May 25th, the Lucas Oil tour fires up again for an exciting season with the first of three, $2,000 to win visits at the Utica-Rome Speedway with A-Mains backed by SUNY Canton. This event will also be the first leg of the GSSI I-90 Challenge with the second event coming the very next Saturday at the Fonda Speedway. The two events will carry a $1,000 point fund with all competitors having a shot at the extra cash.
