Rick Glass Pure Stock 50 to Open 2008 Sharon Speedway Season
Hartford, OH April 22, 2008 Alan Dellinger of Hermitage, PA dominated the opening night of competition at the Sharon Speedway and added his name to the Speedway's record book as the winner of the inaugural Rick Glass Pure Stock 50.
Dellinger began his "perfect" evening by setting the fast time of the evening with an 18.895 lap. He then went on to capture heat race and Australian Pursuit victories before leading every lap of the 50 lap feature event.
Lady Luck was definitely riding with Dellinger and the Steve Burns #70 as the versatile Hermitage, PA driver pulled the "Number One" pill in the feature redraw. Dellinger and Rod Laskey led the field to the green flag however a spin by Charlie Jasinski slowed the field on the opening lap. Three more cautions would slow the field: the first on lap 17 when Bill Grimm, Shaun Hooks and Allan Hudzik tangled in turn three and two spins by Stoneboro, PA driver Andy Buckley on laps 28 and 45. In spite of the cautions that tightened up the field Dellinger was able to pull away from his fellow competitors and collected the win.
Rod Laskey of Oil City, PA drove a great race to capture the runnerup spot with Brian Carothers of Youngstown, OH finishing third. Bristolville, OH driver Jamie Duncan and Warren, OH's Stan Woomer completed the top five. Terry Wheeler, Buckley, James Keith, Bruce Redman and Bill Grimm completed the top ten.
As previously noted Dellinger captured both his heat race and Australian Pursuit victories. Carothers took the win in the evening's second heat event while Laskey was victorious in the second Australian Pursuit race.
