Bachetti Keeps Hot Start Going with Accord Win

ACCORD, N.Y. – On Friday night at the Accord Speedway, Andy Bachetti continued his hot start to the 2008 racing season.

Bachetti, of Sheffield, Mass., captured the win in the shortened 20-lap main-event on the quarter-mile earning him $2,000 for his efforts.

“This is an awesome start for my team,” stated Bachetti. “We came out of the box strong this year and this is the best start ever for me.”

The hot start Bachetti is referring to is his win and third place finishes at Accord and the victory at Lebanon Valley Speedway last Saturday night in their season opener.

Bachetti started the race from the outside of the sixth row in his Albreada Waste sponsored A&C Performance powered PMC. He utilized both top and bottom grooves to work his way forward to get inside the top seven by lap 7.

One lap later Bachetti survived a multi-car incident to put himself inside the top five. Then, with just three laps remaining, he was able to go to the outside and get by the leader David Bush to score his first Accord win of the year.

Bush, from Accord, N.Y., in his rookie Modified campaign, held on to finish a career best second. Scott Ferrier, 46, worked his way through the field on the top side to finish third.

Donnie Elliott, of Middletown, N.Y., was able to walk away fourth while Tom DeMarmels completed the top five.

*****
GOOD WAY TO START: The “Iceman” Dom Roselli, of Middletown, N.Y., took the lead from the outside of the front row as the 22-car starting field took the green flag. Roselli paced the field for the first eight laps when Dennis Deitrich and Chris Kervatt got together in turn two.

THE BIG ONE: On the restart, Roselli jumped back out in front but it proved to be short lived. As Roselli and DeMarmels raced into turn three, contact was made and both drivers went spinning collecting almost the entire field, 18 cars in all, except Bush and Elliott.

After the field was separated it left Bush with the lead and Bachetti in fourth with no damage to his ride.

“I was lucky enough not to hurt the car,” commented Bachetti. “Once they spun I got into them and someone got into me. I didn’t take a lot of the impact and I was able to just back up and get right back in line.”

VERSATILE RACECAR: Bush was strong out in front but it was Bachetti making the most headway. Bachetti was able to put his car anywhere on the speedway in order to work his way close enough to challenge Bush. By lap 15, Bachetti had caught Bush and began setting up the young rookie. Then, on lap 17, Bachetti moved to the outside to take the lead.

“This new PMC drives awesome,” commented Bachetti. “The car was versatile; I could run the top or bottom. He (Bush) was running a good line on the bottom but I was able to go to the outside. I got lucky tonight.”

ALL SMILES: At the line Bachetti was able to score the win while the 26-year-old Bush came home in the runner-up spot. Bush led much of the event but was still extremely pleased by the outcome even though he didn’t make it to Victory Lane.

“It doesn’t matter that I didn’t win,” said Bush. “I’m still really happy. I’ve watched guys like Bachetti race my whole life and I’m happy I was able to hang with him for a little while.”

RUNNING THE GOOD LINE: While leading the event, Bush was strong in his Heads Up Machine powered Teo Pro car. Even though Bachetti showed the nose several times on the inside, Bush forced him to find another way around.

“I tried to keep the bottom blocked coming off the turn,” commented Bush. “But it’s hard to keep a guy like that behind. He’s good enough that he can go where he needs to go to get by.”

LIKING THE TOP: Ferrier finished third after starting alongside Bachetti in the sixth row. Like Bachetti, he made it through the big one with no damage to his mount. He then was one of the few drivers able to go to the outside and make moves to take positions away.

“I was hoping for a caution late in that race,” said Ferrier. “Everyone was running the bottom, I liked it up there on the outside. If you run the bottom right now you’re just wasting your time because the top is where you’re going to have to run when he gets this track figured out.”

QUALIFYING: Jerry Higbie, DeMarmels and Roselli won the heat races for the 25 cars in attendance. Last week’s winner, Rich Ricci Jr., won the consolation event.

IN OTHER ACTION: The 20-lap held over Sportsman feature was won by David Coene; Todd Lapp made short work of the Mini-Sprint field to take the win in their 20-lap feature; Billy Deake Jr. captured the Pro Stock main event; Joe Judge was the winner in the Pure Stock ranks. The Spec. Sportsman and Sportsman feature were lost to the curfew and will be made up at a future date.

NOTES: The racing action was delayed over a half-hour because the local ambulance service was called to an incident on the road adjacent to the speedway.
