VERNON, NY- Canastota Kart Speedway will be presenting another week of exciting dirt track racing this Sunday, May 4 with a four division show 358-Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks. The action is set to start at 5:30 p.m. with the gates opening at 3 p.m.
Stewart Friesen, Willy Decker, and Pat Ward are the favorites to capture the $8,000 358-Modified championship but with a field that includes Mitch Gibbs, Bobby Varin, Andy Bachetti, AJ Romano, Ted Lamb, Gus Scmidt, and more, the run to the championship will be hard fought. Both Decker and Friesen have captured the lucrative twice each. Friesen’s started his title defense this past week taking the opener.
This Sunday will be the final tune up for the 358-Modifieds until the May 11 Race of Champions Dart Dirt Series “ Victoria 200” for the Big Block/Small Block Modifieds.
After opening night wins, Mike Button, Bret Belden, and Russ Marsden all have established their intentions on claiming the track titles in their respective divisions. Despite going winless in 2007, Button was still able to claim the Sportsman title for the second consecutive season and with a win already, Button’s chances are looking good. Former three time Pro Stock champion Bret Belden sent the message out that he wants to nail down his fourth title after his opening night win. In the SUNY Canton Street Stock Series, four time defending Pure Stock champion defended the home turf against the invading teams by winning the event.
