World of Outlaws First Commonwealth Bank Clash Countdown – One Week

Posted by Tom Ames  |  05/07/08

Sarver, PA (May 6, 2008) We are now just one week away from the First Commonwealth Bank Clash featuring the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. This time next week, on Tuesday May 13, the Outlaws’ haulers will be rolling up route 356 with their coordinates being locked on the Don Martin’s Lernerville Speedway.

Yes in just one week the “Greatest Show on Dirt” will invade the “Action Track” for a $10,000-to-win showdown with local guns Ed Lynch Jr., Rod George, Bob Felmlee and Kevin Schaeffer. Regional stars from the O’Reilly All Stars and the Pennsylvania Posse from Central PA will also be on hand for the second big 410 sprint car show at Lernerville Speedway in 2008, the 40th Anniversary Season.

Last month, on April 25, the O’Reilly All Stars invaded the speedway for a 35-lap, $5000-to-win race in which Kenny Jacobs deftly navigated his way to Sheetz Victory Lane. Former Outlaw and current All Star Paul McMahan drove the Rick Ferkel owned #0 to a strong second place finish.

Outlaw veteran and former Lernerville Track Champion Tim Shaffer was also on hand in a Danny Holtgraver team car, as the Outlaws were rained out that night. Shaffer will be back in his familiar Parsons Motorsports/Casey General Stores #6 sprinter next week and gunning for his second career World of Outlaws win at Lernerville Speedway.

Speaking of rainouts, the World of Outlaws got rained out for the eighth time in 14 races Friday night at U.S. 36 Raceway for the Missouri High Banked Nationals. Race number 15, however, went off without a hitch, as Back-to-Back Reigning Outlaws Champion Donny Schatz picked up his first Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series win of 2008 last Saturday Night on Opening Night at the famed Knoxville Raceway. In the process, Schatz set a new track record for a 25-lap race with a time of seven minutes and 14 seconds! The win was also his first official Outlaws win in the car now owned by Tony Stewart.

The Outlaws Championship Standings remain unchanged in terms of the top five with Craig Dollansky still leading Jason Meyers, Donny Schatz, Joey Saldana and Kerry Madsen. The rest of the top ten is all shook up with Steve Kinser jumping up into sixth, followed by Jac Haudenschild, Terry McCarl, Chad Kemenah and Darryn Pittman.

Last year’s First Commonwealth Bank Clash was the much anticipated return to the World of Outlaws by “The King” Steve Kinser and the rest of the drivers who spent the 2006 season racing with the failed NST Sprint Series. “The King” marked his return to the track with a dominant victory, his 16th career win at Lernerville Speedway. At release time, Kinser has not won an Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event in 2008 and would love nothing more than to tie Sammy Swindell with 17 feature wins by claiming the First Commonwealth Bank Clash!

The local boys get one more tune up for the Clash this Friday Night in Commercial Truck & Trailer Sprint Car competition during Fab Four Racing. Rod George picked up the checkers Friday Night May 2 using an impressive sweeping move to take the lead from Bob Felmlee in turn four. Ed Lynch Jr. and Kevin Schaeffer both had engine woes, but both salvaged top ten finishes and have been fast all year. Lynch, like Shaffer, will be looking for his second Outlaws A-Main feature win at the Action Track and 90th career Lernerville feature win during the Clash next Tuesday Night.

Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling the speedway office during normal business hours at (724) 353-1511. If mom is a race fan, surprise her with tickets to the First Commonwealth Bank Clash featuring the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series!
