GOSHEN, NY-- Jerry Higbie Rarin' To Go For Big Three Race Weekend
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

It has been said many times before that all things even out. Last week Jerry Higbie and Higbie Racing had the week off from racing. It wasn't because they weren't ready to go racing or anything like that as the team is always well prepared for any event they tackle. Last week the weather picture over the tracks they compete at were not favorable to racing and both Accord and Orange County cancelled their weekly shows. That being said and having an extra week to work to prepare the racers, the team is set to embark on a weekend of racing that will take them to Accord for Friday, Orange County for Saturday, and the team will head West to Utica Rome for the Victoria 200 set to unfold on Sunday May 11th.

For the popular Slate Hill, New York Modified talent, the weekend will be the competition level Higbie has constantly sought out in his racing career. His two weekly tracks, Accord and Orange County, are chock full of driving talent and to pull off a win at either facility could be considered a diamond in the ruff, a feather in his cap or just a plain tip of the Fedora. Throw in the Utica Rome race where every top Modified driver in the Northeast is expected to compete and add in the 200 laps for $10,000.00 plus lap money and it is easy to consider why Higbie is looking forward to the first big weekend of racing this year. Higbie's recent second place finish at Orange County, after rebounding from being spun out on lap one of the event, gives a clear indication of the desire that flames Higbie forward in his driving career.

With both Accord and Orange County returning to action this week, Higbie is hoping for some great results to catapult him into the Victoria Race this year. While meeting success at Orange County, Higbie has had a series of mishaps hinder his racing at Accord. On the first night of the season Higbie had a rotor sieze and it eventually brought the car to a halt on the frontstretch where a fire resulted on the right side of the racer. Two weeks ago, Higbie high stepped his racer to a great win in his heat race only to be caught in the spectacular 21-car pile-up on the third turn during the feature and breaking off both front shock towers. A reversal of fortunes at Accord will help set the popular campaigner on his way. With his title aspirations for both speedways and the traveling ROC dirt Series, Higbie is well aware of the challenges before him with the aggressive schedule he has chosen to race this year. Higbie is a former Accord Speedway Champion, as he won a title at the Big A back in 1994. Higbie would like nothing better than to add a second Accord title to his racing resume where he won his first feature event back in 1991. Concentrating primarily with the Big Blocks in recent years, Higbie has called the the Orange County Fair Speedway his home track. Last year when Accord Promoter Gary Palmer amended his Modified rules to allow the Big Blocks to compete, Higbie made a triumphant return to the speedway and claimed two big wins during the course of the racing season. Now into the new season Higbie is confident his equipment is up to the task to send him to the winner's circle. Even though it is still early in the season, "The Statesman From Slate Hill" is ranked second in points in the Modifieds and third in points in the 358 Modifieds at Orange County.

Higbie's aggressive 2008 racing schedule will find him in the thick of the action as he prepares for his runs at the Accord Speedway and Orange County Fair Speedway Championships this year. He will also be challenging for the ROC title. For the Accord and ROC events, Higbie will race his signature numbered 97 cars and for his assault on OCFS and select WRG Series Races, Higbie will once again strap himself into the Team Shaver numbered 47 equipment as the Shaver Team will have two Big Block cars for Higbie to steer. Sponsorship for the Teams comes from a great group of loyal sponsors who have supported Higbie throughout his successful racing career. Mid-City Transit, Mr K's Carpet Service, Behrent's Speed Center, SKJ Towing and BadaBing Pizza have all lent their support to the 97 cars, and Beaverkill Trout Hatchery, Superior Building Supply and Woodburne Lawn & Garden lend their support to the Shaver Team. In addition to his Big Block rides, Higbie will be slipping behind the belts of the Affordable Transmission numbered 17 for a run at the 358 Small Block title at OCFS.

Jerry Higbie Racing would like to thank the entire racing community for their support and well wishes as the team prepares for a great season in racing this year.
