Sharon Springs, NY- Bobby And Danny Varin Prepped and Ready For Big Racing Weekend
by Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
New York Modified star Bobby Varin and his son Danny are looking forward to going racing this weekend as both will have the opportunity to race in three Modified features events if everything plays out in their favor. Both drivers are qualified for the make-up feature at the Fonda Fairgrounds on Saturday night and will have an additional opportunity to qualify for another as another complete show is also on the schedule for the the famous Fairgrounds racetrack. If that isn't enough to fill their plates, both drivers are entered in the Victoria 200 set to take place this Sunday at the Utica Rome Speedway. The Victoria race will offer a top prize of $10,000.00 to the driver who can cross the finish line first at the end of the 200-lap grind. With lap money on the line for leading the race, the possibilities for a big pay day loom large for the tremendous amount of talent expected in for the event. Just about every top name in the Northeast driving circles has entered the prestigious event and the entry list is expected to increase right up until race time.
Bobby Varin raced at Utica Rome last Sunday as a tune-up for the Victoria event and came away with a solid fourth place finish. Andy Bachetti led at the start of the race but Pat Ward was hustling to the front from his 8th starting position. Ward wasted no time in getting where he needed to be and took over the lead for good on a 10th lap restart. As Ward put his leading mount on cruise control, the remainder of the field was in a heated battle for positions. Varin and AJ Romano became the hot spot on the racetrack as they raced for the runnerup position. Varin was fighting some motor problems with his Dave Cruickshank owned #00 and gave up the chase for second and later lost third to the high flying Stewart Friesen. Friesen would also move past Romano as the white flag flew and would settle for a hard earned second place finish behind the veteran Modified talent Pat Ward. Romano would hold to third with Varin fourth and Willy Decker completing the top five. The remainder of the top ten were Alan Barker, Gus Schmidt, Paul Jensen, Mike Ricci and Brian Murphy
For this week's racing events Bobby Varin will once again be behind the wheel of the Nancy & Jake Spraker owned 1J Bicknell Chassied/JPM Powered Big Block racer. The racer will also be utilized over at the Utica Rome Speedway for the Victoria 200. With one win under his belt already this year, Varin is hoping to keep his momentum rolling as this week may prove to be one of the most important weekends of the entire racing season. Varin is a three time Champion at the Fonda race track as he captured his first Fonda Modified title in 2000, and earned back to back titles in 2005 and 2006. Last year Varin fell just 36-points shy in capturing another title, losing out to small block proponent Matt Delorenzo. Varin won five times during the 2007 Fonda season, a season which saw him rack-up two wins in large paying events at mid-season, and then had a couple of lower finishes that enabled DeLorenzo to forge ahead down the stretch. The points race win, coupled with the hopes of all good racing luck in 2008, will keep the talented Varin in the thick of the Modified points battle again this season. Fonda has enjoyed a solid history of great racing rivalries since the track opened and the Varin-DeLorenzo rivalry is definitely a throwback to the rich golden history of racing the Fonda track provides.
Danny Varin has gotten off a good start in his rookie season in racing with the Modifieds. The young wheel-twister has proven he can race at the top level and is doing so very comfortably. Despite being taken out by another competitor in a heat race a few weeks ago, the teenager has accepted his responsibility in learning his craft and is showing steady improvement with each outing. Many of the railbirds at the speedway are touting the youngster for future greatness in the sport. Danny will be steering the Ed Monger Magsarus #93 at both Fonda and Utica Rome this weekend. It will mark the first time the younger Varin has utilized Big Block power on the Utica Rome racing surface.
Bobby and Danny Varin would like to thank all of their sponsors and fans for their strong support during the 2007 season and hope for continued support into the 2008 racing season.
