Test and Tune Day at Edelweiss Speedway
Cantley, PQ – Martin Bélanger – Edelweiss Speedway had is test and tune day on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. All the classes had the chance of making several practice laps on a very nice surface. Around twenty cars were in the pits for the afternoon.
In the modifieds, Nicolas Vaillant who is making his debut in this class in 2008 and Yvon Morin from Maniwaki were present. Many regulars drivers were absent because there are racing at other tracks on Saturday nights.
Newcomer Alain Proulx was the only Pro-Stock driver to take some laps. Proulx was getting better as the day went on.
The Semi-Pro class was well represented with 9 drivers in the pits. Marc Lalonde, Stéphane Carrière, Guy Régimbald, Alexandre Gagnon, Brian Rochon, Nico Leblanc, Jocelyn Ducharme who is making a comeback, and 2 new drivers, Stéphane Ouellette and Eric Varin.
The top 2 drivers in the 2007 four cylinders championship, Martin Lagacé and Gabriel Mercier took some practice time along with Alexandre Pilon and a new driver that was not identified.
The new Mod-Lite category had also a good amount of cars with 4, Dean Pronovost, Christian Pronovost, Wyatt Mullin and Patrick Bell. This class should provide some good shows throughout the season.
Edelweiss Speedway and Centre Sports Motorisés are now associated to present the 4 races for four wheelers that will be held on May 30, June 20, July 18 and August 22. A Motocross race is also in the plans during the season. Nearly 15 drivers took part in the practice. These races will be more organized and will give great shows to the fans.
The Semi-Pro and 4 cylinders class were greeted with goods news, Edelweiss has decided to raise the purse for theses classes. The new amount will be on the Speedway’s website during the week.
A good afternoon of racing as the drivers seemed pleased with there practice laps of the track. Do not miss the season’s opener next Friday, May 16 with a 50-lap Syracuse Qualifier for the modifieds plus a complete race program for the other class presented by Dupont & Dupont. Be there!
