For Immediate Release AS-051108-1

Plattsburgh, NY – Patrick Dupree of Saranac Lake won Airborne Speedway’s season opener, the Econo-Lodge 50 for DIRTcar Modifieds, convincingly Saturday. Dupree drew the outside pole in his qualifier and won it, after a brief skirmish with Granby champion Alain Boisvert. That put him on the pole in the main event, effectively letting the fox into the henhouse. Only Martin Roy of Napierville, Quebec could muster any competition for the Outback Steakhouse No. 24, which wasn’t hindered by four restarts. Roy claimed second, five car-lengths off the pace.

Mike Bruno of Castleton was next in line. Leon Gonyo and Matt Woodruff, from 13th, completed the top five. Twenty-three cars were on the starting grid that was without defending champion George Foley, who was plagued with motor problems that began in early practice.

“It helps to start up front,” Dupree admitted in victory lane. “I don’t usually draw very well, but I pulled the second best number. Only George (Foley) did better and then he had trouble.”

“I had a third-place car,” Bruno said. “I raced with Roy for a while, but it wasn’t happening and I settled in. Positions 6-10 went Boisvert, Chris Cayea, Andy Heywood, Francis McNeil and Bucko Branham.

Branham fared better in the J&S Steel Sportsman main. Afetr testing pole sitter Jason Bonnett on the outside for a few laps, Branham slipped underneath the defending champion exiting turn two and held on the rest of the way even as Bonnett stayed in hot pursuit. After a lone restart on lap 22, Tyler Terry and Shawn Duquette gained ground in lapped traffic to finish third and fourth, but Terry measured too low in the tech line. That moved Duquette into third, Jamy Begor to fourth and Robin Wood to fifth.

The Versatile Trailer Sales Renegade checkers flew for Lonnie Rivers of Morrisonville. Lance Rabtoy and Nick Heywood were close in second and third. Rick Hart, who raced at the front much of the way, finished fourth. Ken Davies was fifth.

Donny Lamere of Plattsburgh won the NAPA Warrior feature from the outside pole. Ken St Germaine, David Demore, Tom Beshaw and Dustin Duval ran 2-3-4-5. Malcolm Woodward of Mooers Forks won the Monster Energy Drink Bomber main.

Airborne hosts the ACT Late Model Tour Saturday, May 17. All weekly divisions will also be in action.
